A new Payday 3 Dev Update video released this week, and it highlights the biggest changes coming to the game in the coming months. These updates include two Legacy heists from Payday 2, a new skill line, and adjustments to the game’s frustrating progression system.

In the video, Lead Producer Andreas Häll-Penninger addresses the game’s glaring lack of updates thus far:

Allow me to start talking about the elephant in the room: Payday 3 not receiving any updates during the first month after release. A lot of you want to know why this happened and what we’ve done to make sure we don’t end up in this situation again. To make a long, complicated and technical story short, we found a critical error in our backend update pipeline just after the game went live. As a result of this, there was a significant risk that any update we made could affect the player saves and progression. We had to ensure that the test environment functioned as intended before we could proceed with publishing the update.

We have no reason to want to delay updates for this long. It was frustrating for both us and you, the players, that the launch went the way it did. We’ve taken the necessary steps to make sure that our updates will not cause more problems than they fix. Thank you for continuing to support us and playing Payday 3.

Following the explanation, Head of Community Almir Listo and Community & Influencer Manager Elizabeth Evlestad described the game’s next big updates. The biggest of these are the addition of Cook Off and Murky Station, two Payday 2 heists arriving in Payday 3 soon. They’ve both changed a little to accommodate Payday 3’s new mechanics, but they maintain the same charm as the originals. Additionally, classic character Locke returns to narrate during these heists.

The team also confirmed that the next update will add the Transporter skill line. This skill line has been teased for a while and will allow heisters to carry two bags at once. There will also be several other skills that revolve around carrying and moving bags.

Finally, Listo addressed the progression system. Challenges will be reworked with an improved UI soon to help track progress and suggest new challenges to pursue next. Completing heists will also begin rewarding infamy points, though Listo emphasized that the amount would not be massive.

The team didn’t give any indication of when these updates would arrive, but they’ll all be free and available to all players, which is something the devs promised previously.

For those curious, the game’s first post-launch patch was released at the start of November.
