Payday 3 Patch 2 Preview – Here’s What to Expect

Payday 3 Patch 2 Preview

For heisters looking forward to a new update for Payday 3, the wait won’t be long now, as Starbreeze has the next patch coming before the month is over! Thankfully, we don’t need to guess what’ll be in it, as the studio gave a Payday 3 Patch 2 preview today.

During the Twitch stream by the studio, players were given info on what’s incoming. We already know about the new first-person animations, but the two Legacy Heists were discussed as well as a new mask and more.

Payday 3 Patch 2 Preview:

Note: The info below does not represent the patch notes, as that one will house over 200+ bug fixes per Starbreeze. Check out the list from Starbreeze (via PR), as well as a fantastic summary of what’s incoming by the community.

This FREE content update for PAYDAY 3 will offer:

  • Two Legacy Heists (Cook Off & Turbid Station)
  • The Transporter skill line
  • Brand new first person interaction animations
  • Weapon inspect animations
  • Added Infamy Points to heist payouts
  • The “Under Wraps” mask
  • The “Compact7 Lycan” preset weapon
  • New music by composer Gustavo Coutinho
  • Optimization improvements
  • 200+ bug fixes and many balancing and quality of life improvements

Cook Off:

Backstory: An old brand of meth, known for its purity, has returned to the market. The supply chain has been tracked in a lab upstate, and the PAYDAY gang will need to raid the lab so they can sell the drugs themselves. The lab is under heavy guard, and these raids never stop.

What’s New

  • Larger map
  • Tactical scaffolding (added verticality)
  • New area (garage)
  • 19 bag cap – After 10 bags, Final Charge begins and the assault is endless.
  • Influence loot value – You have to be more on your toes and mindful when cooking. You can leave it cooking for longer to slightly increase the value of the meth, but if you leave it there for too long it’ll get burnt and the value will be reduced.

Turbid Station:

Backstory: In this reimagining of Murky Station, the gang is stealing satellite prototypes located in a railyard. The loot needs to be stolen without getting caught, but the reward is worth the effort. The heist is adapted to better fit the Payday 3 movement set, allowing you to complete the heist with more variety.

What’s New

  • Accessible train cart roofs (added verticality)
  • Adapted to PD3 movement mechanics
  • Adapted to PD3 stealth mechanics – (you can slide underneath the train cars for example. That ALONE is better than PD2’s Murky Station)

New Cosmetics

  • Under Wraps Mask – 10 C Stacks. The straps are physics based, so it’s gonna move around as you run around in the heists. That’s actually cool, and the mask looks cool too. Potential to be the best mask in the game.
  • Compact7 “Lycan” preset weapon – 25 C Stacks

Skill Line: Transporter

  • Transporter
    • Basic: Whenever you pick up a body, gain or refresh RUSH. Whenever you throw a bag or body you lose RUSH.
    • Aced: Whenever you pick up a body, gain or refresh GRIT. Whenever you throw a bag or body, you lose GRIT.
    • (I don’t know how I feel about this. I don’t really like that you’re required to get a skill that forces you to lose RUSH no matter what if you throw a bag, just so you can get two bags.)
  • Beast of Burden
    • As long as you have RUSH, carrying objects or bodies doesn’t incur any movement speed penalties to you.
  • Brutal Carry
    • As long as you have GRIT, any civilian or employee who sees you carrying a body will immediately become intimidated.
  • Deep Pockets
    • If you have a deployable bag in your loadout, you start the heist with one extra deployable of that type, but all your deployable bags have 2 charges less (minimum 1).
  • Power Lifter
    • You can carry up to two bags. This incurs a movement penalty. (understandable)
  • Catapult (This is the skill you can get without getting the transporter skill).
    • You throw bags 30% farther.

Animation: Interactions

We know about this already, but I’ll just list them here anyway:

  • Bagging Loot
  • Cable Tying Civs
  • Ordering Civs
  • Reviving Players w/Adrenaline needle
  • Sorting through files
  • Unscrewing Vents w/screwdriver
  • Grabbing Ammo from Ammo Bags
  • Grabbing Bags like a Beaver Hide
  • Typing on Keyboard
  • Scanning Keycard
  • Pushing Button and Keypad
  • Grabbing Loose Loot
  • Opening Doors

We can request other animations for the game. Here’s to hoping we get a middle finger animation for that broke dick piece of shit drill.

Animation: Weapon Inspect

Challenge System

  • Recommended Challenges – This is the first step to changing the improvement system. Based on how you’ve progressed so far with challenges, you will get recommendations for what challenges you should do next. You get three on the main menu for general challenges, and three per heist in the heist selection menu.

Infamy Points

These will be given to us by:

  • Completing the heist successfully
  • Completing the heist entirely without raising the alarm (aka “in Stealth”)
  • Completing the heist by securing all bags

The amount of Infamy Points you get for each of these three factors depends on which heist you are playing and on which difficulty. These payouts are added up together and aren’t mutually exclusive, which means that if you complete a heist without raising the alarm, you’ll get points for completing AND for finishing it in stealth.

Infamy Points: ‘Renown’ Levels

These are for heisters who have reached the level cap. Small icon you can interact with next to your level. Random cosmetic reward per renown level. More cosmetics will be added in the future.

  • 2,000 Infamy Points = 1 Renown Level
  • 1,188 Renown Levels
  • 1 Random Reward per Renown Level

Other Changes: Some Worth Mentioning

  • Lobby Chat (This is for PC players only it seems).
  • Rebalanced Skills
  • 300% health boost for AI Crew
  • Mute heist brief VO

Here’s more info from Reddit user GreatAndPowerfulDC who summarized the stream:

Detailed Patch Notes on the way as well. Loud and Stealth Filter and controller feel and naming loadouts are in the backlog. Offline mode still on the table, which is expected. Stealing gold bars will happen in the future. Quick play is also on the table. Weapon stats still on the table. Cook Off and Turbid Station get new challenges and favors. Locke is the contact and not the operator (an alarm went off in the background after they said this which I felt was very fitting LOL). Unreal Engine 5 is part of the Year 1 plan. If they do collabs, it needs to fit the tone of the game (at least for these first years of the game). Multiple day heists are not on the table yet. Maybe female police will be added (which I think is cool). Paid DLC heists will be NEW heists, NOT legacy heists. New tab in the menu for legacy heists (they won’t be tied to the overall PD3 narrative…? Weird. Then why is Locke returning to join PD Gang in the New York revamps of these heists?)

Once the official patch notes are out, we’ll let our readers know. The patch is expected to be released by the “end of November” on all platforms, so expect it next week!
