With yesterday’s surprise showing of the next-generation PlayStation VR headset dubbed the PlayStation VR2, Sony featured the tech specs of the device, as well as some of the key features players should expect from it once it’s available. However, two of the most important things that weren’t discussed, are its price point, and when people can actually buy it.
Over on Twitter, video game industry analyst Daniel Ahmad has shared more details from CES 2022. For one thing, Sony is targeting PlayStation VR2 to be released sometime near the “end of 2022,” provided supply chain issues do not arise and push it to 2023.
We currently expect PlayStation VR 2 to launch towards the end of 2022, assuming no supply chain impact that pushes it into 2023.
The early announcement of the device, back in Feb 2021, was to ensure they can address the issues above, especially in regard to content support.

Ahmad also shared that Sony is aiming for a mix of AAA games + social gaming experiences as the key for the PSVR2’s success.
With 17 first party studios and the confirmation of Horizon: Call of the Mountain as a dedicated PSVR 2 title, it's clear Sony wants to ensure good content support early.
We believe a mix of AAA titles + social gaming experiences will be key for PSVR 2.https://t.co/XuNjX3faFO

Regarding the first PSVR, it has sold through over six million units with an attach rate of of 5%, which is not bad at all.
More details on PSVR 2 coming out of CES.
The original PlayStation VR has sold through over 6 million with an attach rate of approx ~5%.
The biggest challenge for Sony this gen will be further removing barriers to entry and providing solid software support to drive adoption https://t.co/K2SDlEtg0l

If the PlayStation VR2 is indeed set for release later this year, that means we should get a price confirmation before it. Hopefully, that means before E3 or around it. Of course, given how hard it is to snag a PS5 still, I wouldn’t be surprised if the PSVR2 launch is once again done in waves and in a per-region basis.
Do you believe we’ll see the PSVR2 launch later this year? Or will it be for select territories only?
