razer ps5 controller

Razer announced today that they are entering the PS5 controller market with the Razer “Wolverine V2 Pro.” While it certainly looks impressive, there are some details that players might need to know before plunking down the dough for it.

In an FAQ published by the company, it confirmed that the Razer PS5 controller, which costs $250, won’t feature rumble functionality, and that in order for players to remap the buttons, you’ll need to do it via a mobile app.

Razer PS5 Controller (Wolverine V2 Pro) FAQ:

Can this product be used both wirelessly and wired?
Yes

What’s Razer™ HyperSpeed Wireless?
Razer™ HyperSpeed uses our low latency, 2.4GHz technology found in wireless Razer gaming peripherals. It provides lag-free wireless performance when gaming.

What’s the actuation distance of the Razer™ Mecha-Tactile Action Buttons and how long is the actuation time?
The face buttons have a reduced actuation distance of 0.65mm, which is 35% less than that of the average membrane controller. This results in an actuation time of approximately 10ms.

When should I use Razer™ HyperTrigger mode?
When playing games like first person shooters (FPS), flipping the switches on the backside of the controller will allow for trigger pulls that provide quick and clicky feedback similar to that found on Razer gaming mice. When playing other types of games like racers, flip the switches back to enable full-range trigger pulls for actions like acceleration.

How do I remap the 4 back triggers and 2 multifunction top bumpers?
Download the Razer Controller app on iOS or Android to remap the multifunction buttons to the layout you prefer.

How do I adjust the Razer Chroma™ RGB lighting on the controller?
Download the Razer Controller app on iOS or Android to adjust the RGB lighting’s brightness, effect, and color.

Why is there no vibration feature in this controller?
The Razer Wolverine V2 Pro is a controller focused on competitive play. Vibration (rumble) is not a feature that is typically utilized in competitive settings as it can negatively affect precision when playing games that require more accurate directional input.

When would I want to use the extra interchangeable thumbstick caps?
For situations where you need more speed (using an SMG or Shotgun in FPS games), use the shorter caps for tighter control. For situations where you need more accuracy (sniping in FPS games), use the taller cap provided for more range of motion and precision.

Given how this costs $250, I gather some gamers might not be as willing to fork over the money even if it has the Razer branding, no? For reference, the DualSense Edge, which costs $200, will feature haptic feedback, though it looks a lot less cool and doesn’t offer that Chroma color feature Another thing that we assume it won’t feature will be adaptive triggers given it won’t have rumble functionality, which is needed to implement it (adaptive triggers) in games.

Also of note, the FAQ also mentions that in order to remap the four back triggers and two bumpers, players will need to do so via the Razer Controller app. While almost everyone has a phone, it’s not the most practical way of doing things. I mean, what if you left your phone, or want to lend it to someone? Or is it just me?

The Razer PS5 controller Wolverine V2 Pro has no release date just yet, but will sell for $250.
