It’s clear that GTA 6 will mark a pivotal moment in the video game industry. The gaming community is closely watching every move from Rockstar, with former developers of the Grand Theft Auto series predicting that players will be talking about this title “for years.” As a result, publishers are holding off on releasing more information, waiting to see what Take-Two has planned.

Game Publishers Avoiding Fall 2025 Releases to Avoid Competing with GTA 6

The reason? It’s well known that most publishers are avoiding a fall 2025 release to prevent their titles from competing with the highly anticipated GTA 6 launch. After all, such a move could seriously impact their sales. The need for caution is so strong that many companies around the world are putting their decisions on hold until they get more information about GTA 6.

Bloomberg journalist Jason Schreier recently reported that GTA 6 will dominate the video game landscape throughout 2025. Given the immense success of GTA V and GTA Online, which has sold over 200 million copies and is the second best-selling game of all time, along with the sky-high expectations for GTA 6, it’s no surprise that other publishers are adjusting their 2025 release plans around Rockstar’s new title. Sources close to Schreier have confirmed this, further highlighting the massive impact GTA 6 is expected to have on the industry.

“Anticipation is so high that some competing game publishers are waiting as long as possible to commit to their release dates for the fall,” Schreier writes in his article. “The publishers want to see whether GTA 6 will make its deadline or slip into 2026, these people say, and they’re determined to keep their own games far, far away.”

But will GTA 6 be delayed? This question emerged from a rumor in early September suggesting a possible date change for Rockstar’s open-world game. However, Schreier quickly dismissed the rumor, tweeting: “Good news is that six Rockstar employees all told me they have not heard of any delay.” Given Schreier’s reputation as one of the most reliable insiders in the industry, this statement carries significant weight.

If its anything like the last one, it’s going sell 200 million. If thats the case, why bother releasing any other games ever again, eh publishers lol?

It means nothing. I played GTA5 when it came out, it was okay, and then I moved on to the next game. GTA6 won’t be any different. I wouldnt release the same week, but to not release in the same year is an idiotic overreaction. It’s just a game at the end of the day and it’ll never match the hype anyway. I expect a good GTA style game about the same length and scale as GTA 5, maybe a little bigger. It’s not going to be an industry changer and more than the COD games that come out every year and make billions.

I get the mentality, but it’s dumb. I doubt there are many gamers out there that buy only one game a year. It’ll come out, it’ll be a hit and make it’s money and when players are done with it they’ll move on to the next game just like always.
