Report: Insurgency Sandstorm Developer New World Interactive Closed Down by Embracer

Insurgency Sandstorm Developers New World Interactive Shuts Down

The bad news continues to come from Embracer Group, as New World Interactive, the studio behind Insurgency Sandstorm, has reportedly shut down.

The news comes from Second Wind Group’s Co-Founder Nick Calandra, who took to X to post about the news. According to his sources, as early as this morning, New World Interactive is no more.

“In not so great news… I’m hearing from sources that New World Interactive is the next studio shutdown from Embracer… happened this morning apparently and no public statement has come out yet. Super sad to hear this as I did the documentary on that studio and they’re great.”

There has yet to be any public statement from Embracer on the studio’s closure.

Embracer Group warned earlier this year with their restricting plans that there would be several significant changes, including cancellation and consolidation within the publisher. Prior, Saint Row developers Viloition, who have been in business for over 30 years, were closed down, with reports that Timesplitter developers Free Radical also being at risk of closing their doors.

We’ll continue to monitor the situation, and should any new developments arise, we’ll be sure to issue an update.

It’s been a rough year in every industry, as companies all over the globe have had layoffs despite reporting record-breaking profits. The gaming industry seems to have it the worst, as it has become nearly a monthly occurrence all year. An industry that has, for most, been rather light on layoffs, is now experiencing them in full, in a year that many gamers would consider to be one of the best for releases.

Our hearts and prayers go out to all affected by the closures. Let us hope this starts to slow down as we head into 2024.
