Report: Marvel Rivals Mods Functionality Removed by Season 1 Patch
[summaraize]
In the first seasonal update of Marvel Rivals, NetEase brought out the big guns! Not only did we get new heroes to play as, but there are new skins, new maps, a ton of balance changes and more.
However, amid all the additions, there is one slight drawback to the update: the removal mods on the PC version.
Marvel Rivals Mods Do Not Work After the Season 1 Patch
This was confirmed by reliable leaker and dataminer X0X_Leak on Twitter/X, where it’s mentioned, “The latest Marvel Rivals update has introduced Asset hash checking. Due to this, Mods to NOT work anymore until a workaround is found.”
This means that skin mods like Vegeta Iron Man, Hatsune Miku Luna Snow and whatever the community cooks up won’t work. There is a chance that a workaround will be spotted, but if NetEase patches it again, I can see that bumming the modding community out.
If you’ve yet to boot up Marvel Rivals for today, there’s a ton of stuff to wade though, which is listed in our complete Season 1 patch notes and new content changelog.
Developers plugging the usage of mods is nothing new, as most studios don’t want these type of things in multiplayer games. Not only would it affect revenue from the skins they’re selling, but it also posts as a potential security risk as well.
As someone who plays the game every day, I’d prefer NetEase tackle more important topics, such as bots in Quick Matches, than mods, but I gather that modifying game files — even if they’re just for skins — is the studio’s priority over it.
What’s your stance on mods like this in Marvel Rivals? Should NetEase throw the modding community a bone and let is pass? Leave a comment below and let us know.
