Report: Microsoft In Talks With Discord for Massive Acquisition Valued Over $10 Billion

Microsoft Discord

As if the $7.5 billion dollar purchase of Bethesda wasn’t enough, it seems that Microsoft may be setting it’s sights on the massive gaming voice & text chatting platform, Discord as reports have surfaced that the two companies are in current talks over a potential acquisition.

The report comes from Bloomberg, who says that Microsoft is in the running to acquire the company. Sources close to the situation state that Discord reached out to Microsoft in order to gauge interest. Xbox Chief Phil Spencer is apparently in discussion with the company, though no deal has been reached. Discord has also allegedly held discussion with both Epic Games Inc. and Amazon.com Inc. over a potential offer.

However, according to another source of Bloomberg, Discord is likely to go public rather than sell. If the company is talking, it’s possible it’s for a deal or partnership of some sort, though nothing has been stated about that.

As with any reports and rumors, we suggest you take this with a grain of salt until an official announcement is made. Still, such a big purchase like this will certainly shake the industry up, given how popular the service is on PC. For Microsoft, this could mean potential full integration of Discord in their Xbox Services. While Xbox Live does support Discord to a small degree, it is rather lackluster compared to the version found on PC.

Hopefully we hear on some sort of confirmation, or debunking real soon.
