Adi Shankar’s adaptation of the Devil May Cry series has proven to be a divisive work. While it initially earned a mixed reputation among hardcore fans of the games, it has undeniably found its stride with a broader audience, pulling in over 5 million viewers during its debut week and maintaining strong scores with critics.

With the May 12 release of the second season just days away, it doesn’t seem that the momentum is slowing down. In fact, it appears Netflix is doubling down on Dante, as the hunt is set to continue well beyond this current season.

Netflix’s Devil May Cry to get a New Season

MP1st has learned that Devil May Cry has been renewed for a third season. While details on the plot remain under wraps, our sources suggest that production is already in motion behind the scenes.

This approach aligns with Shankar’s long-term vision for the franchise. The showrunner previously stated his intention to develop a multi-season arc long before the first season’s release, expressing a desire to convey different styles with each installment. This includes evolving details such as theme songs and title designs to emulate the unique vibe of the various games in the series.

The road to the series’ success has been a long one, beginning with a surprise announcement in 2018 where Shankar revealed he had acquired the rights to the franchise from Capcom to prevent “the jabronis in Hollywood” from ruining it, finally debuting its first season in April 2025.

Produced by Studio Mir, the talent behind The Legend of Korra and two of The Witcher animated series, the adaptation has focused on a younger Dante, blending the crazy action of the games with the gothic atmosphere that defined the early titles of the 2000s.

While we still await official confirmation from Netflix regarding a third season, fans won’t have to hold out much longer for their next dose of demon-hunting action, as Season 2 premieres this May 12.

On the gaming side of things, the future remains a bit more unclear. However, late last year, Capcom hinted at the possibility of a new entry, naming the franchise as one of their popular brands, intending to revitalize their repertoire through new releases, remakes, and ports. With the Netflix series successfully expanding the audience, the question now is whether we will finally see a new game entry in the near future.
