Report: Xbox Cross-Platform Strategy Codenamed “Latitude” Looks to Bring Exclusives to Other Platforms with No Exceptions

Xbox recently announced that a handful of their platform-exclusive titles would be arriving on PlayStation and Nintendo Switch. This decision was met by lots of concern from loyalists who feared that it might mark the beginning of the end for the company’s so-called competition against Sony. Unfortunately for them, it looks like Microsoft has no intent to back down from this strategy, as an internal Xbox cross-platform initiative dubbed “Latitude” is reportedly aiming to establish “no red line” for bringing their titles to PlayStation and beyond.

A report shared by Windows Central earlier today revealed that Xbox’s new plan for cross-platform launches is built around the idea that any title the company has could end up entering other ecosystems. This means that anything from Halo to Gears to Forza could show up on the PS5 or the Nintendo Switch. This is part of an effort to increase the company’s overall margins.

This strategy makes sense from a business perspective. After all, a quick peek at the PlayStation Store shows that Sea of Thieves is in the top 10 games in terms of sales (and in sails. Get it? Sails?). Hi-Fi Rush and Grounded are also sitting fairly high up in the rankings, even floating above certain Sony first-party titles like Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and God of War Ragnarok. Still, I can understand the concern from devout Xbox fans who worry about getting high-quality treatment on their own platforms.

Overall, I’m of the opinion that more people being able to play more games in more places is a good thing. If this decision means that Xbox can improve their income and stop shutting down beloved studios like Tango Gameworks and Arkane Austin, then I support it.

Agreed, but I’d hope Game Pass would continue to get Xbox Studios games on Day 1.
