Rocksteady Developing New Third-Person Open-World Game With Melee Combat, Job Listing Reveals
[summaraize]
After the failure of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, which is a live service game that departed from developer Rocksteady’s usual output, some might be hoping that the studio returns to its roots.
A job listing by Warner Bros. Discovery seems to suggest this, as it talks about making a third-person action game with an open world and melee combat, which would be a perfect fit for a new Batman title.
Could Rocksteady Be Bringing the Dark Knight Back?

The job listing on the company’s website is for the role of game director for Rocksteady’s next project. Among the required skills, the listing asks for “design leadership and experience across multiple genres, particularly Third-Person Action, Melee Brawlers, and Open World Traversal games.”
This job description matches perfectly with the Batman: Arkham series, but of course, it could also apply to many other types of games, so it’s important to take everything with a grain of salt. However, this job listing further adds support from a Bloomberg report claiming that Rocksteady is working on a new single-player Batman game.
That said, considering that the work on Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League has only recently finished, it’s likely that we will have to wait a few years before we find out what Rocksteady is working on. Last year in September, there was also a rumor that surfaced that Rocksteady was working on a new Batman game as well, which seems more and more likely.
In other news, WB Games President Jean-Briac Perrette stated that the company plans to focus on free-to-play and mobile games. This shift is an effort to move away from the “volatility” of traditional AAA console titles.
