Rumor: Call of Duty 2023 to Be Modern Warfare 3 and Is Being Developed by Sledgehammer

While Activision has yet to announce or reveal anything about Call of Duty 2023 other than stating that it will be a full premium release, a new rumor has surfaced stating that this year’s entry in the franchise will be Modern Warfare 3 (styled as Modern Warfare III).

This rumor stems from Insider-Gaming, who also states that the developer this time around will be Sledgehammer Games (COD Vanguard), though other Call of Duty studios will be supporting development duties as well (which has been the case for the past few entries in the franchise).

According to the rumor, this new version of Modern Warfare 3 will include a new Warzone map, which is to be expected given every major Call of Duty release (since Warzone was introduced) has included a major Warzone revision alongside it. Check out the beta dates, release date and more

Important to note that all the info here are not official and as such, should be treated with a grain of salt for now.

For those not familiar with the game, the original Modern Warfare 3 was released back in 2011, and was developed by Infinity Ward. It is the final installment in the original Modern Warfare saga and introduced Pointstreaks and “Strike Packages” in multiplayer as well. Perhaps we’ll see those return?

As for what’s new in Call of Duty officially, Activision just released the Season 3 Reloaded content for Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2! You can read all the changes and new content for that here.
