Rumor: Starfield PS5 Version Planned by Microsoft

starfield ps5 version

While Starfield was originally planned by Bethesda to also see a release on the PlayStation 5, that plan was put on the chopping block when Microsoft acquired Bethesda parent studio, ZeniMax. Well, if this new rumor is to be believed, it seems a Starfield PS5 version will be announced soon by Microsoft.

According to XboxEra’s sources who wishes to remain anonymous since they are not allowed to talk about Bethesda’s plans, Microsoft plans to release a PS5 version of Starfield post the release of the rumored “Shattered Space” expansion planned to arrive later this year on Xbox and PC. It’s also been said that Microsoft has made additional investments on PS5 devkits to support on-going development.

If true, this comes hot at the heels of the latest rumor that a highly regarded Xbox exclusive is going multiplatform this year, which many assume is referring to Tango Gameworks’ awesome Hi-Fi Rush.

Do note that nothing has been confirmed by Micorsoft and Bethesda, and as such, we need to take this with a huge bag of salt. That said, if this is indeed in the cards, then PlayStation gamers have something special waiting for them. You can peruse our review of it here where we state, “There’s so much to love about the game, and honestly, it might just be the best space RPG out there of this caliber. It has everything you’d want from a Bethesda game.”

Our Take on This Starfield PS5 Port Rumor:

If true, we wouldn’t be surprised, as this would make a lot of financial sense for Microsoft to do this. I mean, it’s not like they’re developing an entirely new game from scratch, but rather, essentially porting the Xbox/PC version to the PS5, which means the revenue far outweighs the risks of doing this. While Starfield is nowhere near as big as the Call of Duty franchise, releasing it on as many platforms as they can would mean more money for Microsoft, and I don’t know about you, but I reckon all that green is something Microsoft is very, very interested in rather than placating fanboys.
