Sea of Stars Co-Op Update is Adding Support for 3-Player Local Mode; Over 5 Million Players Have Sailed Across the Stars

Sea of Stars Co-op Update

One of the best RPGs released in the last year is about to get a whole lot better as Sabotage Studio has announced that Sea of Stars will be getting a co-op update that adds support for three players locally.

In a surprise announcement, the studio announced that Sea of Stars will soon receive a new mode dubbed “Single Player+” that adds three-player cooperative local play.

“Dubbed “Single Player+,” this mode allows three players to journey together in Sea of Stars. Staying true to the game’s core turn-based roots, each player will engage in traversal and combat with a new “Co-op timed hits” mechanic as they embark with friends on Sea of Stars’ grand adventure. The new mode is currently in development, and more details will be released soon.”

Despite the mode’s name, Sabotage Studio hasn’t confirmed whether this update will include a new game plus feature, which players have requested since the game’s release. That would certainly make replaying with co-op more worthwhile for some, though at the moment, it does seem to be only a co-op update. The team mentions that we should expect more details on the mode to arrive “soon.”

A short teaser of the new mode in action was also released.

This news also comes with the announcement that over five million players have played Sea of Stars since its release. It’s an impressive number, though unsurprising considering all the high scores (scoring a 9/10 in our review) it got and being part of both PS Plus Extra and Xbox Game Pass subscriptions.

Hopefully, this isn’t the only piece of content players will have to look forward to this year, as the development team is hard at work on the game’s first DLC, “Throes of The Watchmaker.” No release has been given for the DLC, but Sabotage did confirm that it moved away from early production in January 2024.
