SEGA may be very open about their ongoing relationship with Microsoft, with recent years seeing more and more of SEGA titles on Game Pass and other partnerships, but that doesn’t mean they plan on being bought out by the mega-corporation or any third-party company. In fact, quite the opposite, as they clear the air of buyout rumors, with the focus continuing to be on growth, including acquisitions of their own.

Speaking to CNBC, Sega Chief Operating Officer Shuji Utsumi took the time to clear the air of rumors of SEGA being bought out, saying owners of Sega Sammy Corporation (parent company of Sega) have no intentions of selling.

“Many companies are interested. We feel honored,” Utsumi told CNBC. “We have attractive IPs and potentials. Companies owned by the owner. A strong owner. I don’t think that kind of transaction is going to happen.”

From earlier remarks in the interview, Utsumi said the company is looking for more growth in the form of acquisition opportunities.

“As an entity of Sega Sammy, we are acquiring some of the companies. We just made an announcement [to buy Rovio]. We are still looking for opportunities for growth.”

There you have it; the rumors of them being potentially bought out have now been debunked.

Do mind, that this doesn’t mean it will always remain like that, as no one truly knows what the future may hold. But at the least, for now, many can rest easy knowing that SEGA will continue doing what they’re doing, with their games expanding everywhere.
