STALKER 2 Will Support Mods on Both PC and Xbox Series X|S
While the past few months have kept us glued to our screens with one major gaming release after another, a few noteworthy games still await us as the year ends. At the top of that list is a game we’ve all eagerly awaited for years—STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl. GSC Game World’s RPG shooter has been on our minds for over a decade since its development was officially announced. Now, with only three weeks until release, exciting news confirms that mod support will be available on Xbox Series X|S alongside PC.
One of the most anticipated features in Heart of Chornobyl is the full support for mods. GSC Game World announced that the mod tool won’t be available right at launch, but they plan to roll it out months later on both consoles and PC, likely alongside the multiplayer mode.
Originally, many assumed that mod support would only be available on PC due to the technical demands of developing the tool. However, in an interview with Radio Times, Yevhenii Kulyk, Technical Producer at GSC Game World confirmed that the mod tool will indeed be cross-platform, coming to both PC and Xbox Series X|S.
The GSC team explained that they want mod support on Xbox, not just PC. This is a big step forward for console players, who rarely have access to mods. Additionally, the studio plans to integrate a system that makes mods accessible directly within the Xbox version, similar to how Bethesda and Larian Studios handle modding, though with more control on consoles than PC.
Kulyk also shared that some team members were originally modders, giving them a deep understanding of the modding community. “We are watching the modding community and the amazing work that they done all these years,” Kulyk said, adding that this insight motivates them to offer comprehensive tools for modders on as many platforms as possible.
With STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl scheduled for a November 20, 2024 release on Xbox Series X|S and PC, and launching day one on Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass, players can expect not only high-caliber gameplay but also an experience rich in community-driven creativity. The addition of mod support on Xbox could mark a milestone for STALKER 2 and may encourage other studios to bring similar features to consoles in the future.
