Starfield Crashing Issues on PC – Known Issues and Fixes

Starfield Crashing Issues

For those voyaging the vast universe of Starfield, your adventure might be hampered by technical issues (mostly on PC). If you are one of the gamers suffering from Starfield crashing issues on PC, we’re here to help with the known workarounds.

Starfield Crashing Issues on PC Known Issues and Fixes:

Crashing with 7000XTX

Solution #1: Turn FSR off (via voiceafx)

Solution #2: Cap the framerate to 60 FPS. For AMD GPU’s you can do this via Guru3D RTSS Rivatuner.

Crashing with a RTX Series GPU

Solution #1: Turn FSR off

Solution #2: If that doesn’t work, open the Nvidia control panel via desktop and lock the framerate. Test it, though it seems 60 FPS eliminates the crashes.

Crashing when trying to enter the Kreet research labs

Solution: Update to the latest AMD drivers (via okguonng)

Crashing when using cheat engine or command prompt

Solution: Avoid using either, as at the moment, they both seem to be causing random crashes.

Starfield Crashes on Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S

Sadly, due to the nature of consoles, there isn’t much you can do right now to combat crashes on the Xbox Series X or S. You’ll need to wait for Bethesda to release an official patch addressing these. In the meantime, we recommend using our Starfield bugs and issues reporting guide to find the proper channels to report issues directly to the team.

We’ll be adding more crashing issues and workarounds as more are spotted by the community, so expect this article to be updated.

Not sure whether to buy the game or not? Read our Starfield review here where we state, “There’s so much to love about the game, and honestly, it might just be the best space RPG out there of this caliber. It has everything you’d want from a Bethesda game: a deep and prosperous universe filled with endless possibilities and limitless potential. Be who you want to be, go where you want to go; your freedom is in your hands, and what you do with it is entirely up to you in Starfield.”

Is there any current fix for not being able to save in game at all? Attempting to press save or autosave will result in a popup that says, “failed to create save game.” Other attempts such as sleeping or waiting whilst having the autosave options on will result in the same outcome. Please help!

Hey guys, if you are on PC I found a fix for this issue. The game must be installed on your C: Drive. I had it on an external drive and as soon as I moved it to C: it worked.

Interesting. External drive as in a drive connected via usb, or just another drive within your computer. Either way that doesnt seem to make a whole lotta sense. Not saying your incorrect, but that does seem to be a weird fix.

Nah, today it means a drive that isn’t part of your motherboard (not an NVMe\M.2 drive).
Fo some it fixes it. Actually it’s permissions\antivirus issue.

Friends who get the “failed to create save” error in Starfield should turn off the windows firewall and try. The Windows firewall is meaninglessly preventing the game from accessing the save file.

Sorry mate. When I had this problem there was no solution at all. When I saw that the Windows firewall was giving an error, I found the solution with this method. I wish it worked for you.

As far as I can tell, as I was having that issue too, it means your save is corrupted. I’ve got to start again because of it

Is there any reason that it is corrupting? I can keep playing for a while but dont want to keep restarting my game over and over due to this issue.

Guys, try adding a new user to your windows system and start game with this user. I couldn’t play Skyrim or fallout4 without this procedure, some weird bugs occurred. I suppose the same shitty engine still has this problem.

Solution/workaround FOUND:
what i did is i created new local windows user on the PC.
run the game from there and the save started to work.
test loading the save and re-save, it’s working fine.
however will have to use this new local user to play from there since i couldn’t play on my main windows account user. even after i resolved the issue.
so the only way for now is to play on local user.

Playing on PC through Steam. Started playing on keyboard then tried using my wired Xbox 360 controller. When using a wired Xbox 360 controller, the game has crashed 2 times while in dialogue conversations. Wondering if this older style controller is locking my game up for some reason?
