Starship Troopers: Extermination Update 1.100

While Starship Troopers: Extermination might already be available on PC, it’ll be out on consoles (PS5, Xbox Series X|S) on October 11, and alongside it, a new single-player mode in tow! As part of gamescom, Offworld Industries

Parts of the single-player were shown off as part of a new developer diary where Offworld shares more about the new features incoming with the console release. We also get to see the new Tanker bug, which is a new enemy variant that’s as deadly as it is massive. Starship Troopers movie fans might remember the bug from the film, and it looks to be recreated faithfully by the studio.

Per the press release, the Tanker bug “breathes fire and appears randomly during matches, challenging players with its unpredictable nature and formidable strength. The Tanker Bug will take more than bullets to bring down; players will have to use General Rico’s wits to find its weak points to defeat it.”

In addition to that, we also get to see the Boreas locale, which is an icy planet infested with bugs! This will debut alongside the console launch as a new battleground for players, and will even introduce new enemy variants: the Frost Drone and Frost Warrior.

Offworld Industries dev and Extermination Project Lead Peter Maurice has revealed new details about the game’s single-player mode, which will feature actor Casper Van Dien reprising his role as General Johnny Rico. “Code-named Special Operations Group (S.O.G.), this new mode sees the player undertake a multitude of missions dispatched by the General himself, as he forms the Spec Ops division within the UCF to bring together the best of the best for top-secret assignments. Varying in scope and objectives, these missions are designed to prepare soldiers for the more challenging 16-person multiplayer missions.” Players can also expect more missions to be added in future content updates beyond the October 11 launch.

Prepare to squad bugs on consoles, troopers! Starship Troopers: Extermination bugs out this Oct. 11 on consoles, and expect a title update on PC for it as well.
