Supermassive Games Entering Consultation, Anticipates Layoffs

Supermassive Games

The games industries’ rough 2024 continues, as this time, it’s Supermassive Games that’s set to layoff employees soon. The studio has issued a message, stating that they are set to undergo consultation, which the studio expects will involve layoffs.

The message was issued on Twitter/X, which is surprising to see that a studio announce they are going to be laying off people given these stuff are usually swept under the rug by most companies.

“It’s no secret that the games industry is currently facing significant challenges, and unfortunately we aren’t immune to this.

After much deliberation and with deep regret, we are therefore undertaking a reorganisation of Supermassive Games. As a result, we are entering into a period of consultation, which we anticipate will result in the loss of some of our colleagues.

This is not a decision that’s been taken lightly, with many efforts made to avoid this outcome.

We are all too aware of how unsettling and difficult this process is going to be for all our employees and will be working closely with all those involved to ensure the process is conducted as respectfully and compassionately as possible.

We’re committed to focusing our efforts on our core strengths and upcoming titles to ensure the continued sustainability of the company.”

Just a few weeks ago, Supermassive Games’ founders left the company, with some citing health as the primary reason for doing so.

Supermassive Games has been active in releasing games, with the most recent projects being The Devil in Me and Switchback VR as part of The Dark Pictures Anthology. Currently, the studio is working with Behaviour Interactive on The Casting of Frank Stone, which is a single-player game based in the Dead by Daylight universe.

We wish the company and its employees the best and hopefully, they will all be able to land on their feet.

Other video game companies hit with layoffs this 2024 include Microsoft’s Xbox division, Riot Games, and a ton of Embracer’s employees.
