Embracer Group Continues With More Layoffs and Cancellations

Specifics on the layoffs are still light, but according to Bloomberg, Eidos Montreal has been hit by them as part of Embracer Group’s continued restructuring plans. Sources close to Bloomberg told them that the studio was working on a brand-new Deus Ex game with two years of work behind it before Embracer decided to cancel the project.

It was supposed to enter full production later this year.

Layoffs have been a major event in the gaming industry this past year, with Microsoft cutting nearly 2000 jobs this past week. Embracer Group, however, has been mainly at the center of the news, with many of their studios having mass layoffs and some shuttering over the last year.

As an industry as a whole, we saw more than 10,000 people laid off last year alone. This month alone has already seen thousands, and it unfortunately doesn’t look like this will be the last of it.

Aside from Eidos Montreal, the Embracer Group has also laid off people at 3D Realms, and closed down Free Radical and Piranha Bytes.
