For those who have played The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, are you liking the direction Nintendo has taken the game so far? If so, you’re in luck, as it seems the dev team is looking to create more games in the franchise in a similar vein.

Speaking in an interview with Game Informer, series producer Eiji Aonuma confirmed that Tears of the Kingdom has created “a new kind of format for the series when asked whether Breath of the Wild was seen as establishing the new blueprint for the series for the next several Zelda games to come.

Aonuma: While we always aim to give the player freedoms of certain kinds, there were certain things that format didn’t really afford in giving people freedom. Of course, the series continued to evolve after Ocarina of Time, but I think it’s also fair to say now that we’ve arrived at Breath of the Wild and the new type of more open play and freedom that it affords. Yeah, I think it’s correct to say that it has created a new kind of format for the series to proceed from.

In the same interview, Aonuma mentioned that they pared down some of the Zonai devices available in the game to prevent “decision paralysis,” which is something people sometimes encounter when offered too many choices.

Aonuma: We also had a lot of different versions of Zonai Devices that we came up with ideas for, but at some point, we realized we don’t want to give the player too many of these and cause decision paralysis or trouble for them. So we did eventually kind of pare that list down, and there were a few Zonai Device ideas that we didn’t use.

Whatever the dev team’s decisions were, it seems they made the right ones, as Tears of the Kingdom is now the fastest-selling Zelda game in franchise history.
