The Blood of Dawnwalker Features 30 Days and 30 Nights In-Game Time Mechanic, No “Hard Time Limit” and No Need to Rush

Earlier this week, Rebel Wolves, the studio comprised of former CD Projekt RED developers, unveiled their debut game, The Blood of Dawnwalker. While we got a short snippet of gameplay and a dazzling CGI cinematic, few gameplay details were shared.
Thankfully, the studio seems more open to discussing the game before later this year’s actual gameplay reveal. The studio clarified how the quest structure works and how the game’s time is handled.
The Blood of Dawnwalker’s Main Quest Takes Place in 30 Days and 30 Nights of In-Game Time
In the reveal, it’s mentioned that game protagonist Coen will have 30 days and 30 nights in order to reduce his family. Over on Twitter/X, the official The Blood of Dawnwalker account was asked whether this limits exploration, to which someone from Rebel Wolves replied, “No, it doesn’t. The game itself doesn’t have a hard time limit and it doesn’t require you to rush anything.”
Another user commented that they don’t want to be forced to rush through the game, and the account replied there there is no need t rush at all, since it’s not in real-time. and exploring the game’s world doesn’t move time forward. “No rushing, it’s not in real time. You will have limited time to complete Coen’s main goal (30 days and 30 nights, in-game), and every quest you finish will move the time forward, but exploring the world doesn’t.”
While every quest completed will move time forward, Mateusz Greiner, Senior PR staff at Rebel Wolves, confirmed that it will be telegraphed to the player if an activity moves time forward. It also doesn’t mean the game will end once the 30-day mark is reached. “All quests, but it will be always clearly telegraphed to the player if an activity moves time forward (and by how much) – players will have control over it. It’s also worth noting that there won’t necessarily be game over after 30 days and 30 nights, but let’s not get ahead of ourselves yet. That’s all I can say for now,” Greiner explains.
It’s an interesting concept and we’ll reserve judgment whether it’s good or bad once we know more about it. It’s going to be a long wait until we get the gameplay reveal, so we’re hoping Rebel Wolves shares more info about this single-player action-RPG in the coming weeks and months.
From the press release, it gives a short synopsis of the story: “14th century Europe. Bloody conflicts sweep the lands, and the Black Death comes for the survivors. In the wake of the disasters claiming thousands of lives, the decimated human population struggles for survival. It’s a moment of weakness. In Vale Sangora, somewhere in the forgotten corner of the Carpathian Mountains, vampires seize their opportunity to walk out of the shadows, overthrow the feudal lords and claim what they’ve been denied for centuries: freedom, and ultimate power that comes with it. Legends turn into reality, and history as we know it will never be the same.”
The Blood of Dawnwalker has no release date yet, but it is confirmed for the PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC using Unreal Engine 5.
