The Boys First-Ever Video Game Announced, But It’s Not What You Were Expecting
It’s hard to believe that ever since it first aired in 2019, we still don’t have a video game adaptation of The Boys — Amazon’s hit TV series based on the comic book series created by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson.
That’s changing soon, though it might not be what fans were expecting.
Announced today is The Boys: Trigger Warning, and it’s headed to PlayStation platforms! Unfortunately, that’s where the good news ends for those expecting a core The Boys gaming experience.
The Boys’ First-Ever Video Game Is Purely for VR Fans
Check out our first gameplay look at The Boys: Trigger Warning via the reveal trailer.
In development by ARVORE and published by Sony Pictures Virtual Reality, The Boys: Trigger Warning is a new virtual reality experience built for the PlayStation VR2 and Meta Quest 3. The game is now available for pre-order for a limited-time promo price of $23.99 on both the Meta Quest storefront and to wishlist on the PlayStation Store.
Launching in 2026, this stealth-action VR game puts players on the front lines of the war against Supes. The good news is, it’ll feature TV show cast members who are returning to the game to reprise their roles. Fans can expect Laz Alonso (Mother’s Milk), Colby Minifie (Ashley Barrett) and P.J. Byrne (Adam Bourke). Jensen Ackles also appears as a “twisted interpretation of Soldier Boy,” created exclusively for the game.
Per the press release, the plot synopsis reads, “Developed with the creators and featuring cast members from the hit series, The Boys: Trigger Warning introduces an original character who accidentally uncovers a grotesque Vought secret that turns a family outing into carnage. Forced to become a Supe, the player joins The Boys to infiltrate Vought and take revenge in the most chaotic way possible. Blending stealth and combat with the franchise’s signature dark humor, the VR title delivers a new story rooted in the world fans love.”
I admit, as a fan of the show, this is a little underwhelming. That said, at least we are getting a game off of the show, right? Who knows? This might be the first of many games planned for the hit TV series, and maybe we’ll have one that’ll feature a core game experience.
The Boys: Trigger Warning is set for release sometime in 2026, though there’s no definite release date yet. As for the TV series, The Boys Season 5, which is the final season, is set to air on April 8 on Amazon Prime.
For those looking for more superhero gaming news, earlier this year, we gave gamers a first (and super early) look at Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra. Not only that, we also reported that Marvel’s Wolverine is aiming for a 2026 release — which Sony confirmed as legit — and that the Venom project is still in development at Insomniac per our sources.
