Ubisoft also unveiled details on Countdown and Expertise, two new features coming in Season 9:

Countdown

Countdown, the new co-op mode, unites eight Division Agents and challenges them to work together to restore stability to a power plant infested with enemies and other hazards. With just 15 minutes to prevent a lockdown, up to eight players will deploy in teams of four at separate locations, and will need to cooperate to accomplish a series of objectives, fight through heavy opposition, and extract before time runs out.

The game is setup for 8 players, but you can complete it with less and there is also matchmaking enabled.

  • They also heard the feedback about difficulty options and they are looking into that. (no promises as of now)
    • They are also looking for more feedback once TU15 launches, especially what the general players say about the game mode.

Expertise System

Also coming with Season 9 is Expertise, a new way to upgrade items. Players can build their Expertise by using any item in the game. As they use items, they’ll become more proficient with them. Once they’ve maxed out their Proficiency Rank with an item type, they’ll be able to upgrade its base stats. And as they gain Proficiency with more items, they’ll raise their Expertise Level, which in turn lets them raise their equipment to a higher Grade. (Expertise Level and Proficiency Rank are account-wide, so progress will carry over between each player’s Agents.)

  • The Expertise is a complex system but the basic idea was to add a feature for player to get more power.
  • This is also future prove, since the system expands each time new items are added to the game.
  • PTS was a great way to test the system and also get feedback about the costs, the UI and how it handles.
  • But while the system gives power, it comes also at a cost. You need to max out the items and you also have to pay with resources to unlock the different power buffs.
  • The costs of the upgrades have been lowered significantly during the PTS.
  • They primarily see it as passive feature, because it runs in the background and as long as you play with different items you will increase your proficiency.
  • But they know it is quite a journey to max out even one loadout, but they keep an eye on the stats and how it runs in the game and then they will see if the system needs further changes.

New Gear

Additionally, Season 9 will deliver new weapons and gear, including a Heartbreaker gear set, new Exotic and named items, and more.

Specialization Revamp

  • That was originally planned for TU15 and had the goal to change how you approach the specializations.
  • The goal with the Specialization Revamp is, that choices in the Specialization Tree are meaningful and have an impact on your playstyle.
  • Some choices also lock other trees and you have to select how you want to play and what your role is.
  • They worked hard on the feature, but it was just not ready for TU15 and that is why they pushed it back to a later update.
  • But as mentioned, TU15 is the first drop, more content will come down the road and with a smaller team they also have to be smart what they do, what they change and what they add.

The Division 2 Season 9 FAQ:

When will we have Crossplay

  • This is not something they are looking into at the moment.
  • Essentially, they have separate databases per platform that don’t communicate with each other and changing that at this point is not only very risky but also a huge undertaking that is not planned at the moment

Game Crashes

  • The PTS crashes have been fixed and addressed and they hope the deltas that happened during the PTS should be fixed.
  • As for the live game crashes, they plan to address that in the next update

Will there be another DLC

  • There are no plans to add further paid DLCs
  • They will continue with the season and Season Pass model as they have been since Warlords of New York.

Storage Increase

As stated multiple times, they have pushed the Stash and Inventory to the maximum they are comfortable with, with the last increase. And at the moment there are no further plans to increase the stash.

Will there be a focus on PVP

  • They know there is a passionate PVP community out there, but the current team they have is specialized on PVE content
  • At the moment there is no PVP 2.0 patch planned, but they are keeping an eye on the big issues and try to address them one step at a time.

New Skill / New Skill Variants

  • Season 9 will not add a new Skill Variants
  • There are already many Skill Variants in the game.
  • Maybe they will add more in the future, but at the moment they want to focus on the ones that are already in the game and make them better.

Will you add more Map Locations

  • Countdown is essentially a new map location
  • Map expansion like Warlords are not the plan at the moment

What happened to the Raid Exclusives

  • The Gear Sets of the raid will be added to the general loot pool with TU15
  • The Exotics stay exclusive to the Raids

Postmaster

  • The biggest problem is, how do you make it practical so that you don’t have to filter 100 items after a day of playing.
  • They are mostly looking at ideas and feedback at the moment.

More Legendary Missions

  • The Expertise and the Specialization Revamp will make the players more powerful
  • Raids and legendary missions are currently the most difficult content
  • But adding legendary difficulty to new content is not just flipping a switch but is handcrafted and balanced by the developers.
  • The real question is, how do you make the game challenging and interesting for the players and that needs to be answered smartly.

Consolidate DZ Darkzones

  • No there are no plans to merge the Dark Zones

Unlock the previews Season Missions on the Reward Track

  • Yes, that will stay the same, you will be able to unlock the special missions from the old seasons on the reward track.

As always, stay tuned here at MP1st for the complete patch notes once Season 9 and Title Update 15 rolls around!
