The Division Heartland Officially Cancelled
Announced by Ubisoft way back in 2021, The Division Heartland was supposed to be the franchise’s free-to-play version set for release on PC and consoles. Well, that’s not happening now, as Ubisoft has announced that The Division Heartland is officially cancelled.
This cancellation announcement was part of the company’s quarterly financial report where the studio confirmed that resources for Heartland are now being shifted to upcoming free-to-play multiplayer shooter XDefiant, and Rainbow Six Siege.
As part of Ubisoft’s efforts to streamline its operations and adapt to evolving market trends, there have been further reorganizations within the Global Publishing teams, both at the APAC region, that is now organized into three engagement hubs, and at the central level. Additionally, in line with the increased selectivity of its investments, Ubisoft has decided to stop development on The Division® Heartland and has redeployed resources to bigger opportunities such as XDefiant and Rainbow Six.
The last gameplay update we had for the game was back in April 2023, where we got to see parts of the game’s story elements and of course, gameplay mechanics. Ideally, Ubisoft wanted to tie in Heartland to The Division 2, with cross-game rewards announced.
While Heartland is dead, The Division 2 is still on-going with support. Ubisoft has also confirmed work on The Division 3 is underway, which we’re hoping to hear more about in June’s Ubisoft Forward.
Those looking for another free-to-play game, XDefiant is set for release this May 21 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. You can check out the preload and launch times for the game, as well as the launch content info to know more about it.
