The Finals Future: Esports Leading Up to Season 8
That’s the rundown of the highlights coming in Season 6 of The Finals. Now, onto the juicier stuff: the future of the game.
Throughout Season 6, and in general, 2025, players can expect several new updates to drop. Along with the traditional bug fixes and improvements, these updates will be focused on laying the foundation for what will be a very heavy esports-focused future. But don’t get that confused as the game shifts away from casual play, as all the Esports updates will cater to both casual and competitive players, with Embark’s goal of streamlining both experiences.
This is all leading up to Season 8, where the first major tournament will take place.
But even if you aren’t a big esports guy, much like myself, all these upcoming updates will have things for you to look forward to. Embark explained during our closed press preview that they plan on integrating the real-world Esport side of the game into the actual lore of the game. Top players and tournament winners will be featured on in-game billboards, though in a more game-like manner to fit The Finals. From how we understood it, we’ll be able to follow the journey of some of these players through in-game dialogue, which includes discussions from commentators while in-game.
The plan is to make these journeys feel exciting and relevant in the game, and though we don’t know exactly what they will look like from a player’s perspective, I will say that Embark has quite an ambitious plan. It’s actually a pretty cool idea, especially given the game’s current lore and its being this big contest. Melding in real-world competition into the game’s lore has massive potential, and as a casual player myself, I think it’s pretty exciting and an awesome way to get us involved with the competitive side of things without actually watching it or participating.
I’m looking forward to seeing how The Finals turns out in the upcoming seasons, and I cannot wait to see how Embark implements the esports side of it in the upcoming updates. For now though, let’s enjoy what Season 6 offers, which officially goes live tomorrow.
