The Last of Us: Troy Baker Says Pedro Pascal’s Role Is So Good He Wishes He Could Redo Original Performance

Pedro Pascal The Last of Us

The Last of Us TV series is airing next month, and it looks like we can expect a good performance from Pedro Pascal as Joel, according to one of the original game’s cast members.

In a recent podcast episode of Play, Watch, Listen by Alana Pearce, Joel’s original actor Troy Baker commented on Pedro Pascal’s performance:

What (Pascal) proved is that this character is bigger than any one performance. Man, it’s also earned… I am inspired by Pedro’s performance as Joel. I wish that I could go back and do some things different.

While Troy Baker does star in the upcoming HBO TV series, he plays a minor character rather than Joel. Ellie’s original actress Ashley Johnson also makes an appearance as Ellie’s mother, with the female protagonist now being played by Bella Ramsey (Game of Thrones).

Troy Baker’s amazement isn’t all that surprising, given that Pedro Pascal is an impressive actor in his own right. He’s played the titular character of The Mandalorian, and he’s starred in Game of Thrones and Narcos. We’ll have to see for ourselves how well he can play the role of Joel, but for now, we’ll have to take Baker’s word for it.

The Last of Us TV series is premiering on January 15, 2023 on HBO and HBO Max.
