Sumo Digital and Gun Interactive have announced two new characters for The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, as an elaborate ARG (alternate reality game) for the game concludes after seven months. The ARG’s finale came in the form of an itch.io game titled “Petals,” which players can now download in its entirety for free.

Petals revealed two new characters, Johnny and Sissy, who will be joining the game’s roster of killers when it launches next year. Johnny and Sissy have been developed in partnership and creative cooperation with Kim Henkel, screenwriter for the original movie. Check out the official artwork of both characters below:

The elaborate ARG began this spring with an Instagram account for an in-universe character serving as the trailhead, and featured both real-world investigative elements and hidden digital content. For the uninitiated and curious:

The first breadcrumb of the ARG (alternate reality game) was the Instagram account of Maria Flores https://www.instagram.com/mariaflorestribute/ which consisted of pictures, news clippings and snippets of lore for would-be detectives to dive into.

From there, community members were sent to Google Maps coordinates, hidden newscasts, and eventually a whole playable game, “Petals” on itch.io
In Petals, you play as Maria Flores, sister of main survivor Ana Flores, and through the gameplay, you’ll learn more about her story and get introduced to the two new characters.

People can now freely download Petals as a playable game for themselves and follow the entire trail for some fascinating pieces of lore, created by Gun Interactive.

Petals can now be downloaded here. For more details about the ARG, follow the game’s official Twitter account, which also provides an out-of-universe perspective of the ARG and connected speculation.

The Texas Chain Saw Massacre comes out in 2023 for PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. Check out the gameplay footage released back in June, which revealed a number of details about the plot and survival-focused gameplay.
