Unreal Tournament – First Look at Work-In-Progress Deathmatch Gameplay

Developers at Epic Games are lifting the lid off some of the really early work the studio is accomplishing with their upcoming community-driven arena shooter, Unreal Tornament.

The video above shows off the first, very rough version of Unreal Tournament’s Deathmatch game mode with “questionably operational” kill scoring, a “very basic movement prototype,” and a weapon system. Clearly, it’s a work-in-progress, but showing it off at all stages of development is all part of Epic’s philosophy to remain as transparent as possible throughout production, which you can read more about in detail right here.

Senior programmer and project lead Steve Polge said earlier that Deathmatch and team modes would be an initial focus for Epic, before working with creators on introducing vehicle combat.

Unreal Tournament is a completely community-driven project, guided by Epic Games, that will be coming to PC, Mac, and Linux for free.
