XDefiant Hardware/IP Bans Against Cheaters Not Implemented Since They “Don’t Work,” Ranked Will Feature Faction Limit Eventually

XDefiant Hardware ban

Since XDefiant’s release, the game has been plagued by cheaters, which is usually what happens to online multiplayer games these days. Usually, developers ban user accounts to stop the cheater from logging in further, but XDefiant is a free-to-play game, which means players are freely able to create multiple accounts and as much as they want. But what if the devs employed a hardware/IP ban rather than just banning the account? That should work, right?

Apparently, it won’t work (or matter) according to Executive Producer Mark Rubin, as players can easily spoof their IPs.

For those unaware of what IP spoofing is, anti-virus company Kaspersky explains it as “IP spoofing, or IP address spoofing, refers to the creation of Internet Protocol (IP) packets with a false source IP address to impersonate another computer system.”

Of course, this doesn’t mean that hardware and IP bans won’t ever come to XDefiant, it’s jus that it’s not part of the anti-cheat plans for now.

As for Ranked Play, it seems that there won’t be a faction limit per team in Season 1’s official launch of the mode, though it will be implemented eventually according to Rubin:

If I had to hazard a guess, the devs will take a look at the Season 1 Ranked Play data to determine what steps to take for Season 2. Given XDefiant is an all-new shooter, that seems like a logical move to make rather than deciding haphazardly.

In other XDefiant news, expect a patch to be released this coming week, and not only will it change weapon mastery progression, but it will also provide a fix to the melee bug frustrating players currently.
