XDefiant Microtransaction and Customization Plans Outlined, Founders Pack Confirmed for Launch Day
With XDefiant being a free-to-play game, it’s understandable that there would be microtransactions in the game. Now for those worried that this will give paying players an advantage, don’t, as the devs have relayed the XDefiant monetization business model, and it won’t be pay-to-win.
XDefiant Microtransaction and Customization Focus:
No Pay to Win
- There are no pay-to-win mechanics – Any gameplay impacting content that is purchasable is also unlockable through challenges to ensure fair play amongst our community.
- For example, the DedSec faction in Preseason will be purchasable or unlockable through an in-game challenge by acquiring 700k XP
The studio’s goal is to provide customization options that reward the player for all matches regardless if you won or not. Per the studio, here’s how they are valuing the player’s time in playing XDefiant:
- Free Battle Pass Rewards
- In-Game Challenges, both Daily and Weekly
- Ubisoft Connect Challenges
- Weapon Mastery (with regular updates)
- Community Participation Rewards like Twitch Drops, giveaways, and in-game events.
In terms of customization, players can expect more than just character skins to be available.
XDefiant Customization Options:
- Character Skins
- Weapon Skins
- MVP Player Animations
- Player Cards
- Emoji Packs
- Even more coming in the future
At launch, players can expect the following pieces of content to be available
For those wondering whether the game will feature a Founder’s Pack like in other free-to-play games which usually consists of specially-made cosmetics that showcase that you’ve been there from the beginning, XDefiant Executive Producer Mark Rubin confirmed that it will be available at launch in response to a fan.

What Ubisoft has shared seems good enough. However, the only concern I have is are the factions you need to “buy” for XP. Let’s hope the game is generous
