Fortnite update 5.01

Just a few days ago, Epic Games released the latest major update for Fortnite called “Love & Legends.” While the content drop introduced new cosmetics and stuff to do, it also broke the game for a lot of gamers.

After the v39.40 patch was applied, Fortnite players on all platforms (console, PC, mobile), saw the game client become unstable, which resulted in crashes and the like.

That should change today, as Epic Games has released an emergency patch, which should show up as Fortnite update 5.01/1.000.212, and this aims to make the game be playable.

Fortnite’s Weekend Update 5.01/1.000.212 Released on February 8

Epic Games acknowledged the instability for the Fortnite game client, stating, “⚠ We’re working to address a stability issue introduced in today’s update, where older gen platforms will crash and newer gen platforms will see hitching when loading into the lobby. We’re aiming to resolve this ASAP and will keep you updated on our progress.”

As part of today’s patch roll-out, the developers mentioned, “We’re releasing a new stability patch to fix crashes…PC and consoles will see a new Fortnite update available to download. We’ll have the same update for mobile platforms early next week.”

Hopefully, this does the trick. If not, expect Epic to release another game update soon. There’s no way in hell that the company will have its cash cow stop milking money.

No mention of gameplay-related changes in this patch, but there are a few known issues that Epic is looking into, which include:

  • We’ve heard your feedback that latency has been feeling higher than normal. This one’s proving complicated to pin down, but we’re actively investigating and will have more info to share soon!
  • Reload players may suddenly be unable to build or shoot Morphite weapons even when there are still bullets in the magazine, and we’re investigating this for a fix.
  • We’ve seen community posts showing inconsistencies with Hurdle & Mantle, interaction prompts not appearing when expected, or inputs not registering near windows and objects. We want this to feel smoother and more reliable.
  • We’re looking at tournament players that may have experienced issues loading into tournament matches, as well as a UI scoring placement bug that we’re fixing in a future game update.
  • The Storm Icon next to the Minimap doesn’t communicate whether the Storm is shrinking or holding still. We’re fixing this in a future game update.
  • We’re aware that interactions may become unusable after editing default binds, especially on controller inputs, and we’re working on a fix for this.

Once another patch is out, expect it here on MP1st.
