Horizon Hunters Gathering

Announced some time ago, Guerrilla Games has finally revealed its online Horizon experience. Introducing Horizon Hunters Gathering, a new online co-operative game where players team up as heroic Hunters to protect a world under threat from deadly machines.

An opportunity to play the game early will arrive soon, with a planned closed playtest. Check out our first look at it in the trailer, and what to expect from the playtest.

Horizon Hunters Gathering Leans Into Guerrilla Games’ Multiplayer DNA

All right, so this may not be exactly what many had in mind. More so on the visual side of things, as the game trades up Horizon’s mind-blowing visuals for something more cartoony? If that’s the right word. Still, it can be fun, and I’ve never been one to judge a game before playing it.

Thankfully, it seems we won’t have to wait too long to at least try it out, as a closed playtest is set to arrive very soon for both PS5 and PC. You can sign up for the PlayStation Beta program here.

Two modes will be featured in the test, and they are:

  • Machine Incursion, a high-intensity mission in which waves of machines pour out from underground gateways, led by a formidable boss.
  • Cauldron Descent, a longer, multi-stage trial where ever-changing rooms push Hunters to their limits—from brutal machine encounters to hidden doors that promise power and rewards for teams prepared to open them.

The first playtest, which PlayStation is calling “small-scale,” is scheduled for the end of this month.

As for a release date, it is still to be determined, though we don’t expect it to be very far off.

This isn’t the only Horizon online experience fans will have to look forward to, as new NCSoft is also developing a new MMORPG for PC and Mobile

Unfortunately, it too has no release date yet.

So, what are we thinking about the two online Horizon games now that they’ve both been announced?

Ugh, this has so much going against it already. Horizon seems like a dead franchise Sony keeps shoving in our face. The last game sold poorly, the remake on PS5 of the original sold poorly, the Lego game sold poorly and the PSVR2 sold poorly. Now they want to take a dead franchise and mix in a genre that also sells poorly – Monster Hunter Knockoff. Don’t get me wrong, Monster Hunter is great and sells really well – but the knockoff games never sell. Mix in the poor reaction to this games Fortnite graphics and the typical distaste for Live Service games and you’ve got a DOA game.

Game looks like a burning dumpster fire already. If there was any common sense, the Developers would SHUT THIS DOWN NOW. Otherwise, you might as well just set millions of dollars of cash on fire. There isn’t even a 1% chance this game will succeed. Every dollar spent is a dollar lost.

But hey at least you can roll play as a peg legged hog
