Fortnite’s Update on January 22 Delivers 4.98 Content and Changes
In case you’re wondering why Fortnite is having matchmaking issues today, January 22, it’s because Epic Games has pulled the game’s servers in order to release a new title update.
Players on consoles will see the download as Fortnite 4.98, and this is for the game’s v39.30 content drop featuring a new game mode from Fall Guys.
Alongside this, the patch also fixes lag issues that has plagued gamers for weeks now.

Crown Jam: A Limited-Time Fortnite Mode from the Fall Guys World
Get ready to fall for a new 3v3 arcade sport when Fall Guys Crown Jam hits Fortnite. From January 23 to February 9, this isn’t the Fall Guys in Fortnite you’re used to — it’s all about getting slam dunks on the other team’s side of the arena. It’s basketball… meets football… meets obstacle course chaos.
When you queue into Crown Jam, you’ll be put in one of six Crown Jam clubs each time. For Crown Jam up-and-comers, there’ll be a Ranked option so you can earn rewards for your Locker like the Less Fallin’ More Ballin’ Jam Track and Crown Ball Back Bling!
Finish five matches of Crown Jam to unlock the Blue Plushie Bean Back Bling. Earn this Back Bling and the Ranked rewards to show off in other modes.
Aside from the new Fall Guys game mode, expect the patch to fix the lag issues players have reported in conection with the Lobby menu screen. Epic states, “Tomorrow’s v39.30 update will fix several lag issues players have reported in the Locker and Lobby menu screens, such as delays when emoting, changing screens, or navigating your Locker.”
