Hogwarts Legacy 1.000.008

Avalanche Software has begun rolling out the Hogwarts Legacy Update 1.000.008 this July 11, which seems to be a surprise update. Based on what we’ve noticed, this patch is only for the current-gen versions (PS5, Xbox Series X|S) of the game.

Hogwarts Legacy Update 1.000.008 Patch Notes | Hogwarts Legacy July 11 Update Patch Notes:

Size: 863MB (PS5)

Update: Avalanche has finally released the patch notes, and we’ve updated the article to reflect it.

Build Version – 1151036

Developer Note – This patch addresses overall gameplay experience and stability improvements.

Bug Fixes:

  • PS5
    • Performance
      • Resolved GPU texture memory crash that could occur randomly throughout multiple areas of the game.

As of writing, Avalanche Software has yet to acknowledge any new patches for Hogwarts Legacy. We should be getting some official notes soon, though for now, we’ll monitor any feedback the community reports and update the post accordingly. For now, expect this to be related to bug fixes and performance improvements.

There was a patch released last month that included a  host of improvements. You can read the entire changelog of that here.

We’re keeping an eye out on the community and the official patch page for the game, and once we know more, we’ll update the article.

Update: Article has been updated with the proper patch notes straight from WB.

Haven’t experienced any glitches or crashing and i’ve completed almost everything. I hope they add additional content at some point.

I haven’t played for months as it’s unplayable on PC because of the stability issues.

I found one big glitch. Room of requirement. Use wingardium leviosa to lift the moveable crate to try to get the gold bag really high up. Climb on top. You’ll go under the stage into a purple void.

My game crashes damn near every 5 minutes. Thought this update would help and it still crashes. I haven’t gotten far in the game because of it

That isn’t normal lol. I’ve beat the game already and so has my friend. My cousin is halfway through it. I’d consider your PC isn’t heating properly and it’s just becoming a mini oven inside despite you not feeling it on the outside, and/or the GPU is bad, so the GPU is shutting itself off to protect itself. Could be a monitor issue as well or a psu problem. This shutting off thing when id launch a game 5-10 minutes into playing would happen to me when my old, new computer started to die, it was a cyberpower PC they slapped together so best buy gave me my money back. but i got my new PC it’s been solid, ive got a ROG desktop with a 3080 in it.

I’d second this info (to a certain extent)..

I use AMD graphics card and it is a known thing that the raytracing smashes AMD GPUs poorly in this title… (yes, worse than most!; and not typical framerate variation vs nvidia counterparts etc..)

I play the game with everything set to ultra, and for the first few months simply bruteforced the graphics (no FSR 1/2 turned on)..

I mostly stopped playing after I saw patches make game graphics massively worse (whingers ALWAYS net graphics gimping ala squeaky wheel gets the grease)..(kingdom come deliverance is another perfect example of top tier graphics being downgraded ’cause users say “every other game runs fine on ultra settings(but not YOURS)!”.

Now I do believe this game needs some serious polish; especially on PC side of coin.
obvious PC Ultra settings havent been ‘widely’ tested; most opting to run without raytracing…

buuuutttttt-
In the present state game DOES run. Quite well in fact.
Now- I did have to tune my graphics card DOWN in performance otherwise the junction temperature (worst temp spot based on ‘multiple points’ is my understanding) would exceed 110 degrees and either the PC would shut down or game would drop to desktop (depending how quick that twmp raised).

Believing the game broken I stopped playing for quite awhile.

Last week I swapped two fans directions around (an inlet became an outlet and vice versa); this dropped GPU temp by 5 degrees celcius.
Combined with lowering power into my GPU (and playing with fan curves) I could now game happily.
I have seen a few other titles let me hit 110 degrees junction temp (all Raytracing titles eg Portal RTX and Witcher 3 revisited) and I have booked my card to get ‘serviced’ (fan repaste hopefully will help?!?), but simply locking my framerate and keeping an eye on temperatures (a fan curve that keeps me from going above 112 degrees celcius at junction temp)..and voila- everything is fine.

accidently left framerate uncapped – couldnt get game started without crashing.. (beat this by running overlays and keeping task manager open whilst ‘shader pre-caching’ happened and I could get into Settings and turn on my frame rate lock again.

I now lock my GPU fan to 2/5ths speed (~1600rpm) and I have a totally quiet PC that runs game flawlessly for many hours at a time.
Turning RT shadows off removed all graphical ‘immersion breaks’ I was experiencing, and removed basically all frame drop from the most difficult to render locations.. (still a few spots where my framerate drops by 1/3rd super briefly, but these are spots where some tweaking is needed to game and I can count them all on one hand over a lot of gaming time (so far-30+ hours in the last week or so)

FSR 2 adds a lag/latency hat FSR1 mode does not.
Using FSR 1 mode and RT Shadows off I now play at 1600+ Resolution woth everything else set to Ultra.

best use of HDR (panasonic OLED) I have seen in gaming (Returnal and Demon Souls were ‘great/good’, but Hogwarts- with spell effects and a masterful understanding of ligth by the art department has Lumos correctly light bugger all and incredibly well depending on darkness the player is experiencing… (depth of picture and immersion being 10/10)

RDNA 2 can brute force this game (no FSR ‘upscaling’), but sustaining 1440 with everything Ultra (and Raytracing Ultra etc) is very taxing.
If I frame cap and tailor my fan curves I keep my card from crashing in this game.
I know RDNA 3 can spit this game out much better and the new generation AMD graphics cards can do this title without being right at the edge of the thermal envelope..
but as a gamer since the seventies and a PC system builder and overclocker since the nineties- this game is the nicest ‘tech demo’ I have ever had the fortune to play.
(I also brute forced Crysis at Ultra settings on release but ran at 720p due to owning a ‘midrange’ nvidia 8800gt at the time).

I do believe that this game pushes hardware heavily.
That being said- even as a PC tech of three plus decades: Hogwarts Legacy is impressive and is ‘very rewarding’ to experience from a hardware enthusiasts point of view.
Fortunately I like the Hogwarts universe and so am happy that the software that is most impressive on my PC has great music/art values and an interesting world to visit.

better than running 3D mark and great for keeping room warm in winter.
My video card will eat 300+ watts of power happily; but I have tuned this game to sip power and so my usage varies from 150watts to around 220watts (peak; avg being 170-200w).
Lowered power consumption equals less heat generation (was killing game even before finished loading depending on setup options chosen).

I know I could turn off Raytracing and run 4K instead…
but…
Eyecandy over framerate for a game that can look this pretty.
frametimes and responsiveness so ‘more framerate’ doesn’t yield any appreciable benefit.. (not an online competitive shooter on a high refresh rate gaming monitor/ arcade beat em up where a frame of animation can ‘telegraph’ a fight move..etc)

Solid experience…
three crashes since I sorted out my system. All three because my GPU profile didnt load with the game and I was back to full power/not enough fan speed)

TL:DR I reversed some PC case fans and monitored my GPU temps and adjusted settings to keep my GPU from crashing the PC.
(bonus being a silent PC that bruteforces Ultra graphics whilst running 60% higher resolutuon than the Playstation 5 (consuming ~100watts more power from the wall to do so SILENTLY).

GAME NEEDS PATCHES: TRUE
GAME WORKS PRESENTLY: (ALSO) TRUE
