Mario Kart 8 Update 4.0.1

Nintendo has released Mario Kart 8 update 4.0.1 on October 13, and this delivers a short list of fixes to the racing game.

Most notable of the fixes is the difference in the number of obstacles during Online Play for Switch 2 players, which are more compared to OG Switch. Mind, this is the first time I’ve heard of an online game having a different experience than another platform, and it’s not technical-related.

Read on for the other fixes applied for today too.

Mario Kart 8 Item Boxes and Obstacles Issues Fixed in October Update

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Update 3.0.1

General

  • Fixed an issue where the number of obstacles or Item Boxes would increase during Online Play and Wireless Play on Nintendo Switch 2 compared to Nintendo Switch.
  • Fixed an issue where players could not select a user who is registered to the system when playing with two players for Online Play and Wireless Play.
  • Fixed an issue where some of the Star Bits would not be displayed when driving on Wii Rainbow Road on Nintendo Switch 2.
  • Fixed an issue where the game would close unexpectedly when certain conditions were fulfilled.

Today’s patch goes hand-in-hand with last month’s, which added support for Switch 2 docking the game for better visuals.

Support for the Nintendo Switch 2 system

  • Shortened the loading time before races and battles begin.
  • Added support for 5–8 players in Multiplayer.
    • You can connect up to seven Nintendo Switch controllers (Joy-Con or Nintendo Switch Pro Controllers) to the Nintendo Switch 2 system. In order to play with eight people, you need at least one Joy-Con 2 controller or a Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller.
  • Added CameraPlay support.
    • A USB camera (sold separately) is required to use CameraPlay.
    • Players can turn camera ON or OFF in Multiplayer (2-4 players) and Online Play modes.
    • In order to use a camera on the internet, players must participate in a GameChat session. The camera footage and microphone audio will be sent only to GameChat members.
    • When the camera is ON, the player’s face is displayed during the race.

General

  • Increased player speed during races by the equivalent of one coin.
  • Players will not slow down while using Boo to become invisible, even when entering an offroad area.
  • Players with access to the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe – Booster Course Pass will have “96 Races” added to the “VS Race” rule settings.

Once another Mario Kart 8 patch is out, expect it here on MP1st.
