Outriders Update 1.08 May 25 Fires Out for Damage Mitigation Issues

Outriders Upcoming Update S

People Can Fly has released the Outriders update 1.08 May 25 patch, which is the latest major update to the game. As one might expect, there are loads of fixes, and most of all, touches on the damage mitigation issues that has been troubling players for quite some time now.

Outriders Update 1.08 May 25 Patch Notes:

  • Fixed a bug that was causing armour values to not be calculated properly under certain circumstances, leading players to take unintended increased damage.
  • Changed the damage behaviour of Brood Mother enemies to prevent them from one-hit killing players in under certain circumstances.
  • Addressed an issue that could cause players to be unable to sign-in under certain circumstances.
  • Added telemetry to better track and diagnose any outstanding sign-in issues.
  • Fixes for crashes.
  • Other minor bug fixes.

Important note: There is a known outstanding issue where the “Damage Blocked” stat on an Expeditions results screen can occasionally appear inconsistently or abnormally low. This appears to be a purely cosmetic issue with the results summary screen, NOT an issue with damage mitigation overall or during gameplay.

I’m also planning to kick off an updated known/investigated issues thread later this week, so please do keep an eye out for that.

In the meantime, please do use this thread to report any outstanding issues that you (continue to) encounter in the game after installing today’s patch (Tuesday, May 25). I will make sure to include consistent issues affecting multiple players in my follow-up news update this week.

In particular, I would be keen to hear whether you (continue to) encounter any mods, skills or gear items consistently not working as intended. If you are able to provide details and reproduction steps for these things not working properly, it would greatly help us investigate them.

Damage mitigation is one of many problems. Reavers cyclone bugging, known since April 2nd, not fixed. Legendary droprates are too low and some legendaries are overprioritized, like cannonball, which noone really uses, not fixed. Class balance is horrible and the balance between different specs within a class are horrible.

Melee hit boxes for elites are too big and they not only hit you too hard with 80% of Hp gone, but they also cause a ridiculous knock back which makes you prone to get killed instantly after a knock back plus one non elite firing at you making the knockback an instant kill.

Why have cc abilities when after you hit the boss once , they are completely immune to any status effects for almost the rest of the encounter. Why do elites have wandering flames overlapping with frost zones, which instakills you if you are so unfortunate to get into them?

Why do you end up on ledges when you roll, to end up being one-shot while standing? Why are some classes dependant on certain legendaries to be maximized, while others don’t?

Why do every other class than Pestilence tech shamans have to cheese moaning winds to be able to output enough damage ? There are so many issues, that are ruining the game, and dmg mitigation is in fact not the worst one.

The sad truth is that most of the major issues with Outriders are made glaringly obvious within the first hours of play without any serious analysis. Everything “feels” either rough or unfinished–if not completely broken. There is nothing beyond the laughably awful campaign mode that is worth the time or effort required to achieve it.

The short bursts of fun that we had were quickly snuffed out by the wonky difficulty scaling and lack of consistency in any aspect of what is being sold as a finished product. The dull arenas and hallways ripped straight from tired old shooters like Gears of War (without a useful cover system) should have been a red flag for everyone, but no–we pressed on and are greeted by non-stop technical issues, wildly varying aesthetics, pointless skill trees, and barely-functional mechanics that even the most gracious of us cannot abide or ignore…

A few of the rough spots seem to have been smoothed out, but in a game that is nearly entirely comprised of derivative concepts jammed into a rusty frame held together by duct tape and chewing gum, it seems rather futile. With any luck, PCF will reveal that this giant mess was all an elaborate April Fool’s prank and unlock the real Outriders for those of us who fell for it. Fingers crossed.
