Starfield Update 1.000.003

While Starfield’s release on PS5 this month was supposed to be a moment of celebration, that was marred by crashing and other technical issues that affected the RPG’s performance on the platform.

Today, that should change somewhat, as even if the new patch, which PS5 players will see as Starfield update 1.000.003, doesn’t solve all the problems, it should make the game a lot easier to actually play.

PS5 Pro owners, this patch will be a godsend for you.

Starfield Free Lanes Update 1.16.236

Bethesda announced, “Today we’re pushing live a quick hotfix for @StarfieldGame players on PlayStation 5 Pro that resolves crashing when using Enhanced settings.”

The developers added, “The team is preparing an additional hotfix for other PlayStation 5 crashes and freezes, targeting next week. Thank you to everyone who has reached out to our support team, it’s been incredibly helpful.”

It seems that, based on the community’s response, this hotfix broke a few things on the base PS5 version. Just for reference, we are not expecting the base PS5 crashing issues to be fixed, so players using the OG console should stick to the 30fps mode for now. Having said that, community members have also lamented that even on that mode, the game still crashes, so best thing to do is probably wait for the patch next week that should address base PS5 issues.

In addition to the PS5 issues, there are also various bugs that are affecting gamers such as:

  • “Into the Void” mission not triggering correctly on PC
  • Frame rate issues affecting all platforms after the Free Lanes update
  • When leaving the menu or star map, the frame rate drops drastically. Possibly the GPU is entering power saving and not coming out of it (via @PeterP_1985)
  • You cannot rotate items properly in the inventory when inspecting with a controller (via @PeterP_1985)
  • Long load times when starting the Armada DLC on PC.

These are the tip of the iceberg, as there are more issues that need to be addressed — and not just on the PS5.

Once the PS5 patch is released next week, we’ll let our readers know. Hopefully, that comes with a lot more fixes than just the crashing problems.
