Are you a fan of Battlefield 5? If not, and you’re looking forward to a new Battlefield game, you might be waiting a while. During EA’s quarterly earnings call, the publisher announced that the next Battlefield game is planned to be released in fiscal year 2022!
While “fiscal year 2022” doesn’t mean that the next Battlefield game will be out in 2022 (it means in its operating fiscal year, which is April 2021 to March 2022), this is still bad news for those hoping that we’ll get a new Battlefield game next year.
Targeting new innovation that will be enabled by next-gen platforms and a growing install base on the new consoles, our next Battlefield game is set for FY22.
Overall, we expect this to drive growth in net bookings and underlying profits for fiscal 2021.We will provide formal guidance on our Q4 call as usual. Growth in fiscal 2022 will be led by a new Battlefield title
Given how the PS5 and the next Xbox are both scheduled to be released next year, I don’t doubt that some shooter fans (like me) most likely counted on a new Battlefield game gracing the next-gen consoles like what EA did with Battlefield 4 and the PS4/Xbox One.
Does this mean we’ll see more content for Battlefield 5 after Chapter 5: War in the Pacific? The chances are high. Then again, we could maybe get a new Star Wars Battlefront game next year, or perhaps an entirely new shooter? Maybe Medal of Honor can make a proper comeback and not just be a VR game?

Good, I don’t care about this game series anymore after the horrible BF V.
You have the dates wrong, the fiscal year is April 2021-March 2022.
Huge mistake on the part of DICE, Battlefield is dying and not releasing a game next year is going to be the nail in the coffin.
DICE does not want another BV5 on their hands. I believe more development time is need for a battlefield that gamers expect.
EA and DICE must be stupid. They could have made many millions of bucks by just releasing a remastered Battlefield 3… exactly as it was on the PS3… for the PS4! Private Servers and all. Maybe a few new maps… or just all the maps the BF3 had on the PS3.
CoD Modern Warfare 2019 is no better than the last kiddie CoD games. Bigger maps… more players in a room… but no Clan Support, working Squads, no Private Servers, BF3’s great communications, Teamwork, Strategy or Tactics. If Modern Warfare had the working guts of BF3 for teamwork and tactics… I’d forget about BF6… or whatever it’s called, when it’s launched.
In the meantime… I have no reason to buy a new PS5 for great Modern War gaming. Maybe it’s time to retire from video gaming.
