GTA The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition PS4 Physical Copy Cannot Be Upgraded to PS5 Version

GTA The Trilogy – Definitive Edition ps4

GTA The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition has seen its fair share of issues that have been mostly addressed with patches, but the latest one will possibly upset those who waited for physical versions on the PlayStation 4. As noted by some players on the platform, it appears that the GTA The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition PS4 physical copy does not offer a free upgrade to the PS5 version.

This information has been brought up by Twitter user Ben Turpin who created a thread on the game’s physical release back when it launched on December 17.

Everyone can finally buy a physical version of the GTA Trilogy in most retail stores – but there’s a catch. You can’t upgrade to the PS5 version if you decide to pickup the physical version.

I strongly advise against buying it until the game is improved with more patches.

What’s perhaps more disappointing for PlayStation players is that Ben also confirms that the Xbox physical copy offers a free Xbox Series upgrade, in stark contrast to the PS4.

If you buy the Xbox One version, the free upgrade to the Series X|S version is available right out of the box.

Not sure why Rockstar aren’t giving PS5 owners a free upgrade.

Another Twitter user by the name of Wes Fido has tried to ask Rockstar Support if this is a bug or an intended feature, and they have confirmed that this is the latter.

What’s baffling is that if you purchased GTA The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition digital version on the PlayStation Store, you will be entitled to both the PS4 and PS5 versions. It’s unclear why Rockstar has not allowed the same for the physical version, but nevertheless this may come as a huge downside for those looking to play the game on the PS5 via the disc release.
