2K Games Hacked, Warns of Malicious Link Being Sent Out

2k games hacked

2K Games, the giant video game publisher responsible for the BioShock, NBA 2K, and Mafia franchises, has issued a statement confirming the 2K Games hack. The breach concerns its help desk platform being compromised by hackers and sending out malicious links, advising security measures for affected players.

Here’s the full statement:

2K has acknowledged that an unauthorized third party gained access to its help desk platform earlier today and emailed malicious links to players through its 2K Games support account.

2K has requested that players avoid opening all emails and interacting with links from the 2K Games support account, and has advised the following security measures for players who have already been affected by these infected emails:

  • Reset any user account passwords stored in your web browser (e.g., Chrome AutoFill).
  • Enable multi-factor authentication (MFA) whenever available, especially on personal email, banking, and phone or internet provider accounts. If possible, avoid using MFA that relies on text message verification – using an authenticator app would be the most secure method.
  • Install and run a reputable anti-virus program.
  • Check your account settings to see if any forwarding rules have been added or changed on your personal email accounts.

The support portal will remain offline pending further notice.

2K has explicitly declared that it will never ask players and customers for their passwords or other personal information, warning against complying with such malicious requests from accounts impersonating 2K and its support personnel.

Take-Two Interactive, which is the parent company of 2K Games, is certainly having a rough week. Not only did 2K Games get hacked, Rockstar Games was also compromised recently, with a hacker releasing early gameplay footage of Grand Theft Auto 6.
