Assassin's Creed Shadows internet required

Following today’s Assassin’s Creed Shadows trailer reveal alongside the game’s different edition contents, the title’s digital storefront pages have also went up, and it seems to confirm the game will require an internet connection.

Over on the game’s PlayStation Store page, it mentions that “Online Play required” is marked alongside confirmation of microtransactions.

While it’s normal for games to require an internet connection to function, Assassin’s Creed Shadows being a single-player-only game does make it a bit odd. Basing it off of that, it seems online play is required simply due to the in-game purchases (read: microtransactions) that players will potentially be subjected to. Of course, title updates will require an internet connection, but for single-player games, updates are almost always optional.

Of course, there is a chance that this is a placeholder thing for the game, and we’ve reached out to Ubisoft to confirm whether a net connection is indeed needed to play AC Shadows, and will update the article if we hear anything back.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows will be released this November 15 on the PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. While not announced yet, expect a Season Pass for the game to be revealed at some point in the future.

Update: Ubisoft has issued a statement about this issue, and confirms that while an online connection is required to install the game, it won’t be needed all the time.
