Report: Assassin’s Creed Hexe Exclusive Character, Story Details Surface
With the long-rumored Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag remake finally out, Ubisoft is now looking ahead to a different kind of Assassin’s Creed. For a while, they’ve been working on Codename Hexe, a mainline entry that is reportedly ditching the massive RPG bloat of the last few games in favor of a more traditional linear experience.
Set in Germany during the grim 16th-century witch trials, Hexe is aiming for a much darker tone. According to insider leaks, the story follows a protagonist accused of witchcraft, Anika Adler, as she attempts to survive during the era’s brutal persecutions.
Building on these rumors, we’ve recently uncovered exclusive descriptions that flesh out the cast of characters we will meet in this new entry, including a few extra story details.
Details for Assassin’s Creed Hexe Character Roster
The following information originates from casting calls held from 2023 up until the last few months. As is standard with early project details, these character names are highly likely to be internal placeholders and are expected to change in the final game. Even so, these descriptions disclose minor story spoilers, so read on with caution.
Starting with the protagonist, referred to in these castings as “Petra”, she is described as a strong-willed, passionate woman in her mid-twenties. Characterized as a dutiful daughter and a radical thinker, she is portrayed as someone entirely incapable of accepting the restrictive role society has forced upon her.

Joining her story are two figures who appear to be her parents: “Brigitte” and “Konrad.” Brigitte is a deeply compassionate mother and midwife in her early forties. She is a particularly interesting figure, as recent rumors suggest she holds major relevance to the overall plot, specifically regarding leaks about the protagonist being a direct descendant of the Auditore bloodline.
Konrad fits the profile of her father. Described as an orthodox, religious, and caring family man, he is burdened with a “dirty job.” This aligns with other descriptions suggesting that the protagonist’s father operates as the “headsman of Neustadt,” adding an interesting dark layer to their family dynamic.
The details also shed light on the supporting cast. “Bruno” is framed as a patriarchal, larger-than-life leader with a crude sense of humor, while “Anton” is described as a shrewd, ambitious man who outwardly appears respectable but operates in the shadows. Separate leaks have mentioned a character named “Wolfgang” acting as a mentor to the protagonist, so it’s possible that either Bruno or Anton could be filling this mentor role under a different alias.
Rounding out the cast are “Johanna,” a wealthy but morally bankrupt manipulator; “Theo,” a shy, sensitive young boy who acts as a doting little brother; and “Erika,” an attractive, quick-witted, but arrogant young woman obsessed with status.

For the modern-day storyline, the profiles highlight a character named “Anna.” Described as a driven, impatient career woman firing on all cylinders in a competitive work environment, she specifically lacks the German background of the rest of the cast. This makes it probable that Anna is our window into the Abstergo or Animus Hub portion of the narrative.
But the most intriguing lore drop in the casting centers on an older figure known as “Mother Gertrud”. This character is a 65-year-old former village healer who was once trusted in her community until a sickness that she could not cure swept through the area, turning the village against her and leading to severe accusations of witchcraft. Though never officially condemned, she chose a life of isolation to survive.
Beyond Gertrud’s tragic past, her deep ties to Petra’s family are revealed. Gertrud originally taught Petra’s mother about herbs before she abandoned the healer’s path to marry. Now, Gertrud is offering refuge to Petra as she attempts to escape an antagonistic group called “The Order of the Lamb,” likely a front for the Templars.
The same description also name-drops the city of Augsburg as Petra’s dangerous next destination. Interestingly, this isn’t the only location tied to the project, as insider Rogue TX previously reported that Würzburg will be featured in a future expansion pass.
As exciting as these tidbits are, getting to play Hexe is still going to be a bit of a wait, and development hasn’t been without its hurdles. Earlier in April this year, reports stated that the project took a hit when around 50 developers were taken off the team amid an internal restructuring phase.
But even with the sudden loss of manpower, fans shouldn’t panic just yet. Known insider NateTheHate indicated that the title is still very much on track, though we shouldn’t expect it to launch until the second half of 2027 at the earliest.
