Astro Bot Update 1.011

Just two months ago, we reported on how Astro Bot’s end credits confirmed the existence of upcoming bots in the game. While almost all the bots mentioned in the report have made their way into the game as part of Team Asobi’s free DLC speedrun levels, it seems more are on the way.

Astro Bot’s credits have been updated to acknowledge the use of another IP in the game, and if you don’t want anything spoiled, I suggest not scrolling further.

Still here? Good! Go check the image below and see if it rings any bells (if it does, congrats! You’re old).

Thanks, AssanCHOP!

If you’re unfamiliar with the character, Tomba! is a game released way back in 1997 for the original PlayStation console, and was developed by Whoopee Camp, and published by Sony.  On July 2023, Limited Run Games announced they would be working with game director Tokuro Fujiwara to re-release the game on modern consoles and PC. In August of this year, Tomba! Special Edition was released on PS5, Switch and Steam, and was running on Limited Run Games’ Carbon Engine, and even featured a new soundtrack by Fujiwara.

Not familiar with the character? Perhaps this image will jog your mind:

While Team Asobi has already released new bots for Astro Bot as free DLC, there are still a few that have yet to make it into the game as well. Based on the end credits acknowledgement, we have yet to see Team17’s Worms franchise, Ubisoft’s Rayman, an Beyond Good & Evil, Assassin’s Creed, and Argonaut Games’ Croc Legend of the Gobbos.

Could we be getting more Astro Bot DLC in the future? Based on the evidence spotted, and how the end credits confirmed some of the bots that were introduced in the speedrun levels, I’d say that’s a certainty. Let’s hope this means more free content is on the way for Astro Bot owners.

Speaking of DLC, we are set to receive the Rising Heat download later today, which will introduce a new speedrun level, and most likely, a new bot. Just don’t expect anyone from Final Fantasy 7 to make an appearance, as Square Enix nixed the idea when approached by Team Asobi.
