Gearbox’s latest entry in their storied looter shooter franchise has been released with Borderlands 4. While hype for it remains high, the game’s launch has been marred with loads of technical issues — especially on PC.

Players have reported a lot of issues, and they keep coming. Gearbox has not mentioned anything about it yet, and whether an update is planned to be released soon to squash some of the bugs.

Borderlands 4’s Launch Marred by Performance Issues and Non-Stop Crashing

On the Borderlands subreddit, multiple threads have surfaced since it launched earlier today, crying about performance issues and even how often the game crashes. One player claims they experience a crash “every 30 minutes” and it even sometimes crashes not just the game, but their PC!

Another player chimed in, and said it might be connected to “alt-tabbing” when the game is loaded. While some have reported to be playing it flawlessly, there are more players experiencing crashes than what we’re used to seeing in most AAA game launches.

As if crashing isn’t enough, one player mentioned how they got to level 7, and after crashing twice, their local save got corrupted, though thankfully, Steam Cloud was there to save the day.

As of press time, Gearbox has not mentioned anything about the performance issues the game is suffering from. Checking the game’s official support page, players have reported concerns, but no one at 2K or Gearbox have responded to any yet.

Some of the known issues reported are:

  • Your Settings Have Failed To Save
  • Linking Steam Account from SHiFT Website Triggers SHiFT Account Sign-up Process
  • Missing Guns from Twitch Drops – 9/11/25
  • PS5: BL2 and BL3 Appear as Available When Viewing BL4 Content
  • Amon: Forgeknight’s Slam Hammer Animation Covers Screen when Firing Jakobs Revolvers while using Iron Sights
  • Steam: Unable to Rank Up to UVH 5 When Completing “The Timekeeper’s Order”
  • Multiplayer: Personal Vehicles Can Experience Hitching or Rubber Banding in Co-Op
  • SHiFT: Unclaimed SHiFT Reward Packages Disappear After Quitting and Reloading the Game

We’re waiting to hear what Gearbox has to say, though we wouldn’t be surprised if an emergency hotfix is released before the weekend starts.
