The Witcher 4, 5, and 6 Will Be Released Over a 6-Year Period
The development of The Witcher 4 is moving steadily after entering full production last year, but the launch is still far off: the game will not arrive in 2026 and is not expected before 2027.
This project marks the beginning of a new trilogy, and CD Projekt RED aims to release all three chapters within six years, which means The Witcher 5 and The Witcher 6 may have shorter development cycles.
The Witcher 4 Will Be the First of a Planned Trilogy to Be Released Within Six Years

Speaking during a company conference, co-CEO Michał Nowakowski was asked whether future installments could follow a “shorter and more predictable cadence,” to which he replied, “In a way, yes. I believe that future games should be delivered in a shorter period of time. As we’ve stated before, our plan is still to launch the whole trilogy within a six-year period.”
He added, “That means we intend to have shorter development times between The Witcher 4 and The Witcher 5, and between The Witcher 5 and The Witcher 6.”
Nowakowski also mentioned that the team has been using Unreal Engine 5 for almost four years on The Witcher 4 and is very pleased with the results so far.
“I think you could have seen some of that with your own eyes with our tech demo reveal at Unreal Fest couple of months ago,” he said. “We’re very happy with the results of that and with how the engine is evolving thanks to the Epic team’s efforts. We’re also learning how to make it work within a huge open-world game, as The Witcher 4 is meant to be.”
Currently, around 450 developers are working on The Witcher 4. The game does not yet have a release window, but development is progressing smoothly.
In other news, CD Projekt RED revealed that the map size and number of quests in The Witcher 4 will be “more or less the same” as in The Witcher 3. The studio also confirmed that The Witcher 4 will feature romance options, which they aim to make “super compelling” and “very meaningful.”
Hopefully, this new The Witcher trilogy will be able to match — or even surpass — the intial trilogy featuring Geralt. If it manages to do that, then RPG fans are in for a treat.

I’m not interested at all in Ciri… 1-3 we’re good enough, I won’t be playing any new ones where Geralt isn’t the lead.
