Finally, after being announced two years ago and delayed amid development drama, Unknown Worlds today announced that their highly anticipated sequel, Subnautica 2, is launching on May 14, 2026, in Steam Early Access and on the Xbox Store.

This announcement is accompanied by an all-new cinematic trailer, giving us a fresh look at the world we’ll soon explore.

Steam’s #1 Most Wishlisted Game Has a Release Date

“We’re excited for players to experience Subnautica 2, beginning May 14th!” said Ted Gill, CEO of Unknown Worlds. “Our team cannot wait to hear your feedback as the game evolves throughout Early Access.”

About the game:

“Subnautica 2 is an underwater survival adventure game set on an all-new alien world. It is the next chapter in the Subnautica universe, developed by Unknown Worlds. Driven from your home by ongoing conflict, Alterra offers you the chance at a new life. But as the colony ship CICADA shepherds you and your fellow Pioneers to your new home, something goes awry. The ship’s AI insists that your mission should continue. Stranded and faced with near-insurmountable odds, you must do everything in your power to survive. The future of humanity on this world is in your hands.”

All I can say is, it’s about damn time! Cannot wait to dive in when it launches next month in Early Access on Steam and Xbox. As for a PlayStation release, there is no news yet on whether it will come to the platform, but given that it’s entering early access, that is typically the norm. Meaning when the game is actually ready for its full release, there’s a good chance it’ll launch on PlayStation, or at least we hope.

For now, PlayStation fans will have to hold tight until we get an official confirmation from Unknown Worlds.
