Subnautica 2 Early Access Roadmap Sneak Peek
It’s been a long wait, but the day is finally here! Early access for Subnautica 2 has officially started. While many of you are just beginning your deep dive into the new world of Subnautica 2, it is important to understand that the game is still in development. Meaning there’s plenty of content still to come, and with early access planned to go on for at least two years, Unknown Worlds Entertainment is going to need to rely heavily on your feedback to shape the future of the game.
And though today is only the first day of early access, it looks like the studio is already hard at work on incorporating player feedback, as the next few updates set to arrive are all about bringing some much-requested features.
Subnautica 2 Early Access Roadmap Preview

With early access now live for Subnautica 2, Unknown Worlds Entertainment has now set its sights on what’s to come next for the game, which will eventually lead up to the game’s full launch. But don’t get too excited about the final release just yet, as the current early access timetable is planned to last at least two years. During that time, the studio plans to release several updates that will introduce quality-of-life improvements, features, and, of course, more content.
Though they aren’t quite ready to fully pen all the details on paper, we were fortunate enough to learn what the team had in store during our media briefing of the game. Below, you’ll find a sneak peek at the planned roadmap, which starts off with two major improvement updates.
Early Access 1.1 Update
Improvements
This is the first planned update set to arrive after the early access launch, which is planned to be mostly a quality-of-life update, improving the following:
-
- Biomod system.
- Blight encounters.
- Rex gameplay.
- Vehicle Docking and fabrication.
- More PDA data bank entries.
- Voice log priority system, where the most important log plays for the player if they get more than one.
New Content and Expanded Features
- More passive biomod slots.
- Storage cache.
- Ability to sprint.
Early Access 1.2 Update
The Early Access 1.2 update will be co-op-centric.
Improvements
- HUD systems
- Base building tool improvements.
- Pinned recipe system improvements, which will see a bit more color.
New Feature
- Proximity chat is currently in development, and the team plans to add it with this 1.2 update.
- Player emotes, which include animated emotes.
- A player revive system is being looked at.
- Potentially more player customization options.
Future Updates
The team is looking to bring a significant update in the future that will expand the world with new biomes, new creatures, new leviathans, new resources, a new tool, a new vehicle, and the next chapter of the story.
That’s all that’s been confirmed so far for Subnautica 2’s roadmap. Also, it’s important to note that this is all subject to change as the game continues through early access. We’ll likely see a lot more than what’s here, too, as the team fully intends to use the feedback they get during early access in order to make Subnautica 2 the best it possibly can be.
