Marathon Season 2: Nightfall Starts June 2 With New Map, Faster Progression, and Full Server Wipe
Bungie is currently under pressure after Sony admitted that the studio suffered major financial losses linked to Marathon not meeting expectations.
Even with the disappointing results, Bungie is still moving forward with support for the game and has now officially announced that Marathon Season 2: Nightfall will begin on June 2.
Marathon Season 2 Starts June 2, Full Reveal Planned for May 25
The new season will introduce the extraction shooter’s first major seasonal reset, including a full server wipe designed to give all players a fresh start. Bungie will fully reveal the season during a showcase planned for the week of May 25.
With the launch of Season 2, all stored weapons, gear, currency, player levels, faction reputation, and unclaimed reward packages will reset. However, achievements, cosmetics, permanent titles, and non-seasonal Codex progression will stay. Bungie also confirmed that players can continue progressing through their Season 1 Reward Pass during Season 2.
The Nightfall update will bring several major additions to the game. One of the biggest is Night Marsh Zone, a nighttime version of the Dire Marsh map that focuses heavily on darkness mechanics and lower visibility. Players will also receive a new Runner Shell.
Marathon Nightfall Adds More Customization and End-of-Season Events
Another important addition is The Cradle, a new customization system that allows players to directly shape the strengths and weaknesses of their Runner shell. Bungie is also updating the weapon sandbox and making faction progression much faster overall.
Before Season 2 officially starts, Bungie will launch multiple end-of-season events beginning on May 19. Every match will guarantee events such as Intercept, Lockdown, Convoy, and Anomaly. Enemy Wardens will also always drop keys for locked rooms.
The endgame Cryo Archive map will become available daily from May 21 until June 2, while Bungie will send players a free Sponsored Kit every day to reduce entry risks.
Cryo Archive Ranked will run from May 24 to May 28 and will reward players with exclusive cosmetics and titles based on their final ranking. Bungie will also greatly boost faction XP gains until the season ends.
