The Witcher 3 Cross-Platform Mod Support

While CD Projekt RED dropped a bomb yesterday by announcing a new expansion for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt called “Songs of the Past,” the good news doesn’t stop there.

As part of The Witcher 3: Blood and Wine 10th Anniversary Stream, the developers talked a bit more about one of the most beloved video game RPGs of all-time.

In the stream, the developers tackled a few questions regarding The Witcher 3, including the upcoming expansion, when we’ll know more about it, and the promised cross-platform mod support.

The Witcher 3 Cross-Platform Mod Support Is Still Planned by CDPR

In case someone needs a refresher, CD Projekt RED announced cross-platform mod support for The Witcher 3 in May of last year. Originally set to be released before 2025 was over, the studio has since been quiet on when this feature will be released — or if it was still in development at all.

In today’s stream, CDPR developers Kacper Niepokólczycki and Magdalena Zych confirmed that it’s still in development as part of the show’s Q&A.

When asked whether CDPR was still releasing cross-plaform mod support for The Witcher 3, Zych said, “Happy to say, it’s a really easy answer for us, the answer is yes, we are still working away on it. We don’t have anything to share with you today, but rest assured it is coming.”

Cross-platform mod support will let console players download and experience PC-created mods, which should further enhance the RPG’s replayability.

Another question asked was what Songs of the Past was about, and how big the expansion is. The devs answered the questions, and what they said should please The Witcher fans.

The Witcher 3’s Songs of the Past Expansion Will Be Big in Scope

The developer answered, “Okay. So, we won’t give too much away right now again because we want you to experience it when you play, but as a few eagle-eyed people have already seen over the last 24 hours, there are some hints for you waiting on a very important evening in Witcher, Belleteyn night.”

Zych also commented on the size of Songs of the Past, stating, “Okay, so Songs of the Past will be aligned with what you’re familiar with with Blood and Wine, and what you’ve come to experience and expect from us when we do our expansions.”

For reference, The Witcher 3’s Blood and Wine expansion clocked in at 15 to 40 hours long, depending on how many side activities you wanted to do. As for Belleteyn, it’s a spring and fertility festival, and CDPR confirmed it’ll play a big role in the expansion.

More info from the devs confirms that more Gwent is in the expansion, and the add-on story content will also explain why Geralt has three swords.

CD Projekt RED says they will share more info about Songs of the Past later this year, and we’re hoping it ties the game up to The Witcher 4.
